C. I. L. C-300

Does anyone know anything about this stuff?

It has a little load info on the side of the keg
2-3/4 dr. - 17.5 gr.
3 dr. - 19.0 gr.

It is a very old 12 ga. target powder, etc...

Any help?

This was the first powder I started reloading with in 1973. I used 14 grains powder, one ounce of shot in a 20 gauge.

Used many kegs of it back in the day, to reload both C.I.L. plastic cases and
the old style Win. AA's. It was as popular as 700X and Win 452 around here.
The load info on the side of the can is for 12 ga. 1-1/8 oz lead target loads that
replicate the old C.I.L. loads.

I don't recall C-300 being recommended for 20 ga. target or field loads.

I am assuming you used it with plastic wads, not cards and felt stuff?

Yes, plastic wads like AA's or the Claybuster clones.

I believe it's safe to use this stuff interchangably with 700X in either shotgun or pistol applications.

I was going to use the 17.5 gr. load with Win wads in AAs, and Rem wads in Gunclubs. If I go to 19.0 gr I'll drop the shot to 1 oz.

It should make a fine trap powder.

Talk about timing! I've had a keg of this stuff (still sealed) sitting on my shelf for a while now and have been searching all over for data on it. I guess I will be feeding my .45 with it after some experimenting. Using 700X at present.
