I know a bit about the history of C.I.L but when did they start/stop manufacturing rifles and ammunitions?

How many types of firearms did they make? I have a C.I.L model 171. Nice wood. Nice little rifle. I can never find an overabundance of information pertaining to their history.I've seen a couple of them sell every now and then.

Any idea of value? I'm guessing they were and remain to be a dime a dozen. More interested in the history. Affiliated with cooey/winchester?

Marked "Montreal, Quebec Canada" but on the other side "made in Brazil"

There is a thread hereabouts gathering C-I-L product info(may our knowledge increase). My first rifle was a model 111, a bottom of the line Anschutz single shot .22 with a half moon extractor. My first shotgun a model 402 made in Brazil.
C-I-L grew out of the Hamilton powder works, a powder maker in the late 1800's, in much the same fashion that DoPont got its start making powder.C-I-L made paint, explosives, fertilizer and industrial chemicals and did much business and research with the pulp and paper industry. They trimmed back their diversity in the early 70's, dropping their firearms line(which they themselves didn't build) and selling out their ammunition division to Val Cartier industries, who promptly destroyed the erstwhile fine "Imperial" name, as well as dropping the unique line of obsolete calibers that C-I-L had continued to produce as a service to the Canadian market.
A friend of my father was the VP of the Brownsburg operation(ammunition) and his hot tip to me allowed me to stock up on .25 and .32 RF before it was too late. I still have enough of it to shoot my Favorites occassionally.

I honestly don't remember how well it shot, just that very stiff trigger. I think I sold it 10 years ago for $100. With original box, too.

The stock was beat to a pulp so I refinished it with a bit of teak oil. Not the best picture but I'm more reluctant to sell it now. Nice wood for a low end rifle.
