As my eyes age, I'm considering going to Open IPSC classification by upgrading my Para P1640.

I'd like to know the pros and cons of these 2 red dot units:
1) C-More STSB-7
2) Burris FastFire from Brownells
Another choice may be the C-More Serendipity but it seems large in comparison.

Other than price, has any one any comments about usability, reliability in terms of IPSC use for either unit?
Any issues ordering either from the US?
Any other issues or comments?

All comments appreciated.

Ordering from the US may be a challenge. You almost need to find a Canadian importer or dealer to get those as there are very few that are willing to ship to Canada.

Good luck

I bought my STS from Sean at Freedom Ventures. Sean is great to deal with, and a big supporter of action shooting sports. My STS has two setting for the retical..one setting dims or gets brighter judging by the ambient light available. (ie: it gets brighter if you need it automatically)

As I understand it Sean is the distributor for Cmore in Canada. I think they all go through him. His prices are good.

Lots of optics have come and gone, Cmore is the only one to really stand the test of time, there must be a reason. I love mine, I have switched to a aluminum bodied one because I tend to crack the plastic ones by the set screws for the sight adjustments because I always end up over-tightening them, more my fault then that of the sight.

@SVISTI1911: Thanks for the comments...
How easy was installation (I have a Para P1640) and alignment?

Personally I use the Slideride on a mount as opposed to the STS which is mounted directly to the gun. The STS can be mounted several different ways depends on your gun and preference. Sighting them in is easy, just turn the screws to set your elevation and windage.

Double Tap Sports may also have them in stock which is local and may get to you faster then from Freedom Ventures.

I'd really only consider the trijicon RMR(tritium phosphor version) or c-more sts if was looking for a slide mounted red dot.

RMR= no battery
STS= battery changed without removing the sight.

The burris fastfire and the likes of have to be uninstalled to replace the battery. And given that I have never had very good longevity out of my CR2032 batteries...

Some basic info on C-more STS and RTS.

The STS comes raw, and you buy the mount you want with it. (Like a Rail mount, Glock Dovetail, Sig Dovetail, etc.) They don't make a mount for an LPA or Bomar sight.

I think the C-more has a new one called RTS and it has a larger window than the STS
The RTS has an integral Rail mount - but no other mounting option. (Great for second sight options on a AR)

On a 1911/2011/para, etc for Open, if you want a STS/RTS - my recommendation would be to go with the STS - no mount and a Rescomp Scope STS mount that attaches to the frame, since you can not mount the STS on the slide and frankly, a scope running on the slide of a pistol is never going to maintain a good zero or last as long as you might want.

Yes, C-more will only ship to me in Canada, but you're more than welcome to deal with one of my dealers too - they can be quite competitive and do offer great customer support.

STS, RTS, various mounts are all in stock.

You can get it, but you have to go get it yourself in the US.
Cross your fingers you do not hit an exit check on the way out of the US, or it will be the last time you see the good old USA.

Try some out before you buy but I agree with Sean, if you are going with an STS buy the plain STS and put it on a mount if you are going to run it on a Para frame. Though to be honest unless I was going to run a dot on a gun that does not readily accept a frame mount (Glock, S&W M&P, FNP) or on a 9mm major gun where they are notorious for ejection problems and you want a mount and scope that clears the ejection port, I would run a standard C-More slide ride on a mount or a Seredipity. The bigger lens, interchangable dot sizes and ruggedness of the sight are worth it. You will find that pretty much every top shooter with few exceptions (like those that use examples of guns listed above) run a full size C-more....and thats a bonus too, if you do have an issue, everyone has a C-more. I had a problem with mine at the 2010 Nationals and Sean had one sitting on the table. If he hadn't I'm sure that a number of competitors could have loaned me one.

Oh well, in that case...lol
He still uses a standard C-more on his open gun does he not?
At least he did at the world shoot....

Really? I could not find anywhere in the law that prohibits from crossing Red Dot sights. I must have missed it or looked at the wrong place. I just came back from the US last weekend and wanted to bring one back but was maximized well over my $400 limit so I backed out. We have a former border crossing officer working with us now for about 6 months, and she told me that crossing red dot sights are not a problem as long as you declare it. She said you can pretty much anything over that is being sold in Canada with few exceptions. By the sounds of it, I may have gotten in trouble by trying it. I know they would not sell me any ammo last weekend unless I had a non-resident hunting lisence from one of the lower 48 states, or paperwork proving that you're invloved in some sort of shooting competion like IPSC, USPSA, etc...

I am just curious as to where to find the info saying we are not permitted to bring one back?

I'd like to get an RMR at some point.
