Hi there, sorry for the long and disjointed title - I am trying to capture my issue in the subject with as much detail as possible.
I took my son out shooting today. We had one of metal Duramag crimped 5/30s jam and it turns out the follower was recessed in and not moving. I pushed down on it with rounds in and with rounds out and it did not budge. Got home, watched a Youtube video on how to take it apart form the bottom.
When I took out the bottom, of course the spring came out but was still attached to the follower. I made the mistake of not pushing the follower back up from the bottom. I pulled the spring down, forgetting that it is crimped and since the follower didn't move past its stuck position (I don't think it was at the crimp since only 3 rounds it into it when it was stuck instead of 5). I pulled on the spring and it came out. The follower was still stuck so I used a screwdriver and jammed on it and now it's free, but it's floating between the top and the crimped area, and the spring is now disengaged from it.
What are my options for fixing this? I am not sure I am able to feed the spring through and reconnect it to the follower since once the spring goes in it's a big mess and I can't see anything.
I am not sure what caused the follower to get jammed before it hit the crimp. Maybe it is manufacturing defect, but I was able to use it a few weeks ago.
If I stick the spring in without connecting it to the follower (since I can't), the follower will pop back up but when I push it down again, it gets stuck in the same position (only 2-3 rounds can be loaded) and then it doesn't pop back up - it's as if the passageway down is too narrow or the follower is defective.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
