C7/ C8 magazines

Cheap aluminum mags that are completely banged up and destroyed. Worn and bent floor plate. Followers that get stuck. Lol pretty much grab an aluminum mag and throw it on the floor 10 000 times and rip the floor plate out with a multi-tool 10 000 times and there you have it.... CF mags

D&H contracted usgi mags. The old ones. They have black followers that most definitely tilt. And a black teflon finish like every D&H GI mag I have come across.

The near unanimous response is hilarious whenever members discuss their kit. The reality of so much outdated, poorly designed or worn out gear is horrifying. But the way you guys handle it is hilarious.

To be fair the the new ones are absolutely great mags, that strange D&H anodized/Teflon coating is indestructible ive found. Perfect for military use I guess.

My 10/30 pistol mags on the other hand have that weird "wear lube' chalky finish - I feel like they would be completely polished aluminium n a year of military use lol

Are you talking about new D&H CF mags or new D&H civy mags? Theres a big difference.

They seem fine to me. 1000s of mag changes and dumps. Eight fire fights in the "sand box" never really an issue. I trust them over any plastic or polymer thermold mags which seems the rage today along with "man-buns" and other dumb trends. My 2 cents.

I have their mags with updated followers for myself. They are decent enough.

As for the issued mags honestly if they got some new bottom plates and followers it would be a good refresh. But it might just be worth it to buy all new mags, even if they are aluminum gi mags.

To suggest the current polymer mags from the big names like magpul or lancer are on par with that old thermold junk is about on par with saying you shouldn't vaccinate your kids.

Not saying that, just that I just don't trust polymer/plastic/thermold mags. Plus I don't think that they meet STANAG 2895 and AECTP 200, for cold climate factor of C2 or C3 where I have seen PMags fail. Metal mags work for me.

I have seen tons of cracked lips on the Colt Canada mags. Not terribly impressed with them. Drop a full mag on the deck once and something will break.

They don't have the certification to my knowledge but iirc the lancers l5 awm was the winner in a test done by the request of the lcmm on mags. Of course nothing came out of it.

I have seen the gis fail as well so not sure where you're going with that.

I will say this. Pmags don't feed in c9s for ####.

My stance is the same its always been. Whatever is on sale buy lots run lots. New gis with anti tilt followers work well, pmags work, lancers work. Buy em and load em and shoot em when they get worn throw them away... rinse repeat

Weird and nebulous thread. Metal mags? Yeah, they have worked for past 60 years. Old Thermold? Total junk. Now Colt Canada stocks magpul. Hmm.

Allow me to remove your Nebulosity. Simple. Who currently holds the CF supply contract for magazines. "Metal mags" was not helpful. Others seems to have answered the question without getting as confused as you.

With the exception that those come with a MagPul follower. Issued ones have the old black tilting (gasp!) follower.

I've been using these mags for over twenty years and the number of times that I've had stoppages attributable to the mags have been few. Anytime I come across ones that don't work they meet the heel of my boot so that they can't be issued back out. You think that poor slub behind the counter is checking the body for dents or the feed lips for spread? The Teflon finish is far superior to the USGI dry film finish.
