what kind of mags does the canadian forces use?
20 years ago we used the plastic mags. complete CRAP, feed lips cracked or broke easy causing double feeds or failure to feed.
at that time the qm treated c7 mags like metal fn mags. meaning they should last as long and there was no need to exchange  .
no doubt we now have metal mags? if so are they u.s. or do we make them here? if made here who makes them? any good compared to say sa 80 mags or u.s. mags?
thanks fella's, regards king66

There metal and made in Canada, At one point by Diemaco but am not sure who makes them now in Canada. And yes there good

the old plastic mags were a problem, they were designed to be disposable.

apperently the newer ones that the Dutch military uses are better, but bu hte time they solved the problems the Canadian military wanted nothignto do with them anymore.

We use metal mags now, and Diemaco was bought out by colt and is now colt canada.

thank god, how long did it take for the turn around?
i do remember they were ment to be through away. except you could get charged if you lost one. go figure.
i seem to remember the cf didn't move to fast on change. aprox when did we start using metal?

Black teflon mags are issued now. I think they were made by D&H, the various ones I've been issued either have no markings or are marked "for export only". I did see some USGI mags and I've also seen a few mags that have Diemaco floor plates.

Diemaco (Colt Canada) made the "plastic" for Thermorld mags to the spec given to them by the military. Could be wrong but I do believe that they still make Thermolds and that the cracking issue was solved long ago. If you look at some US sites they'll speak quite highly of Thermolds except for those sporting the maple leaf.

Current mags are USGI style, don't know the manufacturer but they do differ from USGI slightly, black follower, the body is black and doesn't seem to wear off like the USGI mags.

Helmets ON! During the Oka unpleasantness, the CF loaned a bunch of C7s to the Surete de Quebec for their perimeter positions. A couple days later their Quartermaster gave us back a milk crate with half-a-dozen broken plastic mags. The cops had dropped them on hard surfaces and broken the feed lips, noses or bases. Not their fault, just the way the mags behave when they fall.
