This is a thread for general discussion, questions and feedback for a C79 tritium holder replacement I designed.

Here is a link to a few I am selling on the equipment exchange.

***This tritium replacement part is for scopes that are no longer charged with nitrogen. If your tritium is very dim (at least 12.3 years old, tritium half-life), or if your scope is older than 5 years, or is really banged up, then the nitrogen is probably gone anyways. Replace at own risk!***

The C79 tritium holder and replacement vial is reversed engineered to the nearest 0.005 in. It is made from ABS plastic.

The tritium vials are 2mmx6mm cylinders, slightly different than the 1.5x6mm rectangular vial I found in the dead holder. These vials are just as bright, if not brighter. They were recently manufactured in Taiwan, and have an expected life of 25 years!!!

The vials are mounted into the holders using NOA 61 MIL-A-3920 spec optical adhesive. This is a UV light cured adhesive, and is designed to bond glass. It is used in many high impact/stress applications from firearms and fighter jets.

Lastly, these sights have been live fire tested in my C79 scope mounted on my SA20. The reticle is black in high light levels, and is nice, bright and green in low light.

You could just send it to Armament Technologies and get it replaced.

You definitely could, if it is under warranty. If you have a used C79, there is a risk that it went 'missing' from the CF or police force etc. That could be bad news for you. If it is a legit C79 and it is not under warranty, then you may have to pay for the replacement. That is why I didn't send a repair request to them. Didn't want the hassle. That is why I offered this option. $100 and 5 minutes of your time.

If anyone has gone through the process of getting their tritium replaced by armament or elcan, please share!

They did mine for free. I bought it back in the 2000.

Did you buy it new or refurbished from armament? Mine was manufactured in '92, nitrogen was depleted and in rough shape. I did some research online, and Armament will charge you if it is not under warranty.

Ill call up Armament tomorrow and confirm, but I highly doubt they would just do a job like that for free for Joe Blow who bought a 25 year old second hand scope...

I did mine with aerobeasts replacement tritium about 3-4 years ago and nitrogen purged jt myself. Threw it in the freezer overnight, pulled it out in morning during summer, wiped condensation off lenses and checked and found none on inside. Just spent the afternoon on the farm resighting my rifle at the farm -10 and snow flurries and no issues. Tip of triangle post is as bright as new. Not a hard job to do and have a Copy of old C79 manual if anyone needs. Feb 2021 --,Dieseldog!

Have to get ahold of aerobeast if he's still active and see if he's still got any of the replacement tritium pieces left. I wouldn't mine having a spare and believed he charged me $100. ---Dieseldog!
