C8 barrel lenght?

14.5" and it was a thin profile, like the early M16's.

I measured one the Air Det was issued this past fall on Iroquois, it was a C8 with fixed carry handle.

The C8, C8A1, C8A2 are all 14.5". The SFW and THB, I think it's called, ones are 16". I know cause I've played around with the C8 and THB before, and I asked the weapons tech who was there. Also there's a .pdf on the Colt Canada website that has technical specs on them.

I thought they where 14.5" myself but a couple of guys that should know told me they where 16" so hence the question.

They never had the stepped barrel, maybe that's where the confussion lies?

16 inch stepped barrel flat top presently in use in afghan , the old one are 14.5 with the fixed carry handle

Would the Flat-top C8A1's have the Diemaco marked upper with the M4 marking over the gas tube entry point or would they be flat-top C7 uppers?

Nope - RobAk in his old job was part of the crew that sorted out the pam errors on that C8 barrel length issues.

The initial C8 (and later C8A1) "pencil" barrels are 14.5" - side by side a M4 barrel they are identical for length.

At the time the CF had no interest in mounting M203's.

The C8SFW/FTHB has IIRC a 16" barrel

Roger that, 16 inch barrels on the SFW C8's. With some removing of parts from the C7a2 mounted M203's, you can mount it to the SFW without any troubles. This is how we carried them in our Platoon/Coy. Less weight and you get the shorter barrel to boot.

Are you sure about that? The C8 FTHB seems heavier to me than my C7, no doubt due to the heavy profile barrel. This, to me anyway, negates the usefulness of a shorter barrel.

I know the original thin C8 barrel is 14.5", the one I am referring to is the alleged 16" barrel. If someone from here could actually measure the length of the SFW barrel with the bolt in and closed, measure to the end of the barrel, not FH, and determine what the actual measurement is. I'm still of the understanding that it will actually measure less than 16", by a slight bit.
