Hey all

So I am a big fan of the C96 pistols, and am fortunate enough to have an antique one, and a spare, original "red 9" upper.

I have been reading into the 9mm export version and the only difference I personally am aware of is the export version has longer chamber flats to accommodate the higher pressure.

However, my observations (just by viewing pictures and comparing) aren't finding any difference in chamber flat length. At first I used the chamber markings as a guide, but they were done by hand and can be smaller or larger depending on the individual gun.

I am asking because I was wondering what the feasibility of safely rechambering either my red 9 upper, or a 7.63 upper(plus a rebore) into the export version?

Does anybody have a 9mm export who can confirm chamber flat lengths?

Thanks in advance!!

Seeing as how there is no velocity difference between the 9x25 and the 9x19, I'm not sure why you want to rechamber? Just because? The Forgotten Weapons guy did a segment on the 9mm Export versions, if you haven't already seen it. - dan
From what I've been reading (Wikipedia mind you) there was quite a velocity difference, with the exception of 9x19 Norma ENVY FMJ which seems to be a low end +p variant.

Would a c96 be able to handle a 9mm+p loading?

I'm sure it's not that simple but maybe it is. The 9mm export is pretty much the same velocity as the Norma ENVY I just mentioned so maybe it could handle that.

Wikipedia says 9mm export, 127 gr bullet, 1325 fps for 495 ft lbs energy.

Norma ENVY FMJ 124gr bullet, 1345 fps for 498 ft lbs energy

And a "normal" federal fmj 9mm load, 124gr bullet, 1150fps for 364 ft lbs energy.

What point is there in hotrodding a rare and expensive antique firearm?
Because we aren't allowed to buy handguns anymore so this is the best we can get?

I did say I have replacement parts. In fact, the only original part (only part needing to be antique) in use when I shoot it is the frame.

Back to the discussion. If anybody has a 9mm export version, I would appreciate measurements of the chamber flats.

Thanks!

I will keep it, thank you though. You say it won't handle +p pressures, thank you for that. So, back to the 9mm export question.

What is the feasibility of safely rechambering/re boreing a 7.63 or 9mm para version to 9mm export safely?

I did some more research on the 9mm Export versions, and it seems only the later production ones in the 180k range had extended flats. Leading me to believe the original ones were converted 7.63 uppers to 9mm export (hence the shorter chamber flats and "a" suffix serial numbers) therefore it MAY be possible to do have this conversion done safely. I'm just looking for others opinions on this

Only if I can handle it first. But 20K is a joke. It will come down in price.

Had a look. Crappy photos. No pics of the bore or chamber. For 20K, it should be carefully photographed and detailed right down to every screwhead.
