Went to Cabelas today in Abbotsford, found Remington 1400rd buckets on for $99.99 and also Winchester m-22's 1000 round boxes for $65

The Winchester is a better deal per shot, I bought a few boxes as I still have some of the Remington stuff that I paid $80/bucket and haven't used it up yet. I checked Cabelas website and they posted a limit of 2 boxes of the m22 per customer, however after asking staff in store they confirmed "buy as many as you like" so I'm stocked up for a bit, it's not a wicked good deal but I think these prices are the lowest I have found in Vancouver in recent months.

Conrad, do yourself a favor and go out and buy all the rimfire ammo you think that you will need for the balance of your life, and 5 years from now when 22 ammo is $50, or $60 a brick you can look back on this conversation and think how smart you were to have stocked up 5 years ago.. FS

Lots of places it is already $50/500

Thanks for the info. I slipped out of the office over lunch and whipped over to the new Ottawa Cabelas. They had two of the M-22s left on the shelf. I bought both of them. $65 for 1000 rounds is a good price these days. As hometownhero mentioned, $50/500 is closer to the going rate now.

PS, I also took the opportunity to enter a draw for a very nice quad. I know that it is just a ploy to get your mailing address and e-mail, but I don't mind getting their specials and catalogs, so no harm in giving them that. Plus, who knows, I might win!

Met a guy shooting his GSG 1911 22LR using the Winchester stuff. Terrible ammo. Every 3rd shot was a jam and the accuracy of the bullet was bad.

aren't GSG 22's usually picky on ammo? I've heard from a few gsg owners on that subject

Either way, don't buy too much ammo before being sure it runs and functions in your firearm('s) first.

Every GSG 1911 I have seen loves high velocity ammunition. The M22 Winchester is STANDARD velocity. It shoots extremely well in my target rifles. I tried it in a 10-22 and it worked fine. I also tried it in a Cooey M64 and it stove piped. The Cooey works best with high velocity ammo.

Actually the m22 is high velocity. It is 1255fps. Standard velocity is 1050fps.

I personally don't think this is a deal.

I have shot thousands of rounds of the M-22 ammo and never an issue. The first 1000 rd brick was put through a brand new Model 64 Savage I purchased for my then 10 year old stepson and I don't think we cleared more than 3 jams per brick. Now he has an SR 22 I purchased for his 14th birthday last year and it works very well. Just like my 10/22 it needs cleaning about every 250 rounds or it jams 1/10 shots. That to me is the guns design not the ammo.
If memory serves it says on the box or I read on the Winchester website it is purposely built with a special coating (that black finish) specifically for use in 22lr AR type platforms.

well.i'm glad i stocked up at $20.00 a brick a couple years ago when my US friends warned me the shortage and price hike was going to hit us the next year. Every time 22 went on sale at about $20.00 a brick..i ordered a case,i wish i would have bought more since it seems it would have been a better investment than any bank.but at least i wont have to buy 22 ammo for the rest of my life,
