Hello everyone

I am looking for a telescope for my Savage mrk II FV-SR.

I intend to hunt small game and occasionally do some precision shooting (possibly with CRPS, in production).

In the allowed list of scopes, there is Cabela's Covenant.

Does a member of CGN use one and also, who is the manufacturer for Cabela's ??

Thank you

I just put the 6-24x50 SFP on my stag 10 and only have had it out once so far but I love the reticle. The turrets are not bad with positive click with every adjustment. I have not done a tall paper test yet to see how it tracks but reviews say it tracks true. I am not sure who makes it but it is made in China. For $225 you can’t go wrong in my mind.

I'll be putting one of the 4-16x models on a savage Mk II if I get into CRPS with the intent to shoot in production as well. They've got pretty good reviews, if you use the search function you'll find a few threads about them. One guy even put one on a 7mm rem mag without issue.

The 4-16x has more adjustment range than the 6x24 (60moa vs 40) so you'll probably want the 4-16 for that reason alone if CPRS is a possibility, and some people report the optics quality dropping off above 18x or so with the other one anyways.

From what I have heard, the Cabela's Covenant are being made by the same Chinese contractor who makes the China made lower end Vortex Scopes. The Covenant has lifetime warranty also correct ?

The box says lifetime warranty, Cabela's Canada fine print says 1 year. Not real sure on the warranty to be honest.

I have the 6x24x50 FFP on my Savage Mk II, have two seasons on it with about 5000 rounds through it. Tracks well, and the reticule will take standard velocity 22 LR to 250 yards without dialling on 18 Power or 220 yards on 22 power. To my eye they are a dead ringer for the higher magnification Vortex Tactical scopes and share the bikini lens cover, zoom ring etc. Great scope for a 22 rig, but I have never seen them for less than $299 for the low power and $349 for the larger mag version.

I own 2 bought the first one on sale to tst, and put it on an M14. its still alive and im impressed for what it is. bought a second one on sale again, and put it on a rem 700 in 6.5 cm so far so good

I put one on my Winchester 52...reticle is good clarity at max magnification is poor but about the same as the same power Diamondback vortex...cant beat the price and it gets the job done on a .22. Good warranty mine is the 24 power

But is the warranty good? That seems to be the one thing that's up in the air... However, if it says lifetime warranty on the box I feel like they would have a hard time not honoring it?

consider the Athlon Talos BTR 4-14 or the Argos BTR 6-24.. both FFP, lots of great features and track. Both qualify for CRPS production and an Argos BTR scoped rifle took the overall win at a ON match a few weeks back.

If you need to dial often and alot as you do in CRPS, look into the reliability and consistency of the adjustments. You will also need alot of adjustment.

Well I'm glad for these scopes, got to try FFP for under $300. Turns out I have little use for FFP, the shortcomings far outweigh the benefits for the type of shooting I do. The scope itself is decent, FFP just helps with ranging, so if you are not doing that, SFP is a better option.

I put a 6x24 FFP on my 17HMR, no real issues except for some fogging when really cold out. I do like the christmas tree reticle with the floating dot. They have also just listed a Covenant 5-25x56 FFP with zero stop. May be worth a look when it goes on sale

Can you give a ballpark price for those two options? A quick google search didn't find much other than their own website and optics planet, both in USD.

Can't quote prices in the open forum... send me a PM or email. Happy to quote.

The scope that has really got me going this season is the Midas TAC 6-24. Just the basic features FFP shooters are asking for and they work great.

Thanks

Jerry

I have the new 5-35x56 FFp Covenant 7 tactical. It is surprisingly clear and so far has tracked very well. My only real complaint is that the elevation turret is not as tight as my windage and the parallax is very stiff.

Hows the eyebox, clarity and low light visibility?

Indeed, these are very good options for the money, in my not so meaningful opinion.
