Cabelas has the Covenant scopes on sale this week, so I figured I would pick one up.

My plan is to mount it onto my 7mm rem mag for the time being (planning to replace it before hunting season next fall), with plans for it going towards a 22lr PRS-rimfire setup down the road.

First, are these scopes considered recoil-tolerant? Will it hold up to my 7mag?

Second, with the plan being a 22lr PRS-rimfire build in the future, what magnification should I get? Is the glass good enough to get the 6-24, or is the 4-16 the better option?

Cabela's Covenant Tactical FFP Riflescopes

The 4-16X44 has 60 MOA of adjustment.
The 6-24X50 has 40 MOA of adjustment.

There are 15 MOA adjustment per turret revolution.

Get the 4-16 if you are going to use it for rimfire, you'll need as much adjustment as possible.

Do a search on Covenant and read Hitzy's review

I've heard the 4-16X44 is the way to go for rimfire since it has more travel and I've heard the reticle is pretty large at 24 power and almost useless due to the size and glass quality. Its a great rimfire scope for the money, however, I'm not sure how it's going to stand up to 7MM Remington Magnum.

Thanks guys. Seems Hitzy put his on a 7mm rem mag to start with before switching it over to a 6.5CM, so hopefully this will all work out as planned.

I just ordered one for my Ruger precision rimfire. Check out this review from a competition shooter.

I went with the 4-16 because it has more elevation. With this scope and my 20 moa rail I should have 80 moa of adjustment which will help with shooting out to 300m.

I just picked one up on sale. I went with the SFP model, as I am not using it for competition and the reticle got awfully small at the lower magnifications on the FFP model.

Auggie D.

I hope they've are decent. I picked up the 4-16x44 FFP MOA model for my fanthers Christmas present, to go on his 300win mag.

I was set on finding him a FFP with moa reticle. I did not like the Burris reticle. Vortex was way too fine. The covenant was the best reticle.. all that remains is the questionable quality.

Something to be mindful of with these optics is a recurring “dead zone” in many of their models. Met a fellow cprs competitor that returned 4. I had one and sold it for this very reason. Thought that I had 47 moa of vertical adjustments and turns out things stopped moving internally after 30. Missed a lot of my targets because of this in competition. Definitely a feature packed scope for the money, glass is a bit blurry up past 16x for me. If you buy new, you have Cabelas warranty to exchange if you get a bad one.
