i've been hearing about it for a while....even read the annoucement on the cabelas web site. ...but it seems that the developpement fell trought......but today I gain a lot of confidence on a store opening.

I went with th GF up north today on Iway 15. just a bit before the bell helicoper shop....there was a big sign annoucing a new complex...with a cabelas store. All the trees where cut down and pile up. Heavy duty equipement where getting busy getting the trees out and marking up road. Surveyor post could be seen marking out parking space road and other store..

Woohooo....looks like it is going to hapened finaly!

Cabelas

S.I.R. is toast...We in Winnipeg will be treated to a Cabelas this fall or sooner.

The new S.I.R. store is good however I'm looking forward to the selection of the big ole' American box store landing here in Winnipeg.

I have it on good word that the Wholesale sports store here is closing it's doors in wait for the big nasty "c" to set-up here. There is already a sign out front of Wholesale Sports stating "Land for Lease". I sound like the grim reaper however there are a few good deals to be had in the next 2 months as Wholesale Sports start to sell off their stock. This may be a good time to get off my ass and buy that restricted weapon.

maybe not so soon, from cabelas annual report last week:

" As previously announced, we are also slowing our retail store expansion to allow us to focus more on our existing store base.

The Company expects to open two stores in 2008. Scarborough, Maine, is expected to open in the second quarter and Rapid City, South Dakota, is expected to open in the third quarter. Current plans call for two additional stores to be opened in 2009.

As a result of the decision to slow retail store expansion and concentrate on improving the Company's existing operations"

I spoke to someone at Cabelas last week and I was told that the Montreal project has come to a small hault so that they can concentrate on the 2 new stores opening in the states right now. The Montreal store has not been cancelled but just been put off for now but it will definetly be opening.

I saw that sign aswell on saturday. It mentions 2 million square feet shopping center with "Les Ailes" and "Cabelas" on the sign. The sign says "2009".

I doubt this would fall through... Les Ailes is huge... if they put their name on it, it's probably gonna get done.

Either way I'm keeping my fingers crossed :)

Based on the info Campbry posted my guess would be that the 2 Canadian stores (Winnipeg and Montreal) will be the 2009 projects.

I would believe that the stock would be transfered to the other WS stores rather than be sold at a loss.

I really depend on the profit a product can make. It is some times cheaper to clear it out than to ship the product to another location.

Keep in mind that the news about the Mtl. opening was back in Jan.2006, and it was mentioned the store would most likely open in the fall of 2007 or Spring of 2008, so they are delayed more than a little bit.

Although planning and discussions are in early stages, Cabela's expects to open the Montreal retail showroom as early as late fall 2007 or spring 2008. The large-format retail store, located in the Lac Mirabel mixed-use project, will be developed by Connecticut-based Gordon Holdings Group and Rubin Stahl, and would be Cabela's first store built outside the United States.

The Lac Mirabel development, which will encompass more than 14 million square-feet and include 2.2 million square-feet of retail space, will be located on Autoroute 15, just north of Montreal. The project also will include man-made lakes, a sports complex, a 100,000 square-foot Caldea Therapeutic Spa from Andora in Europe, a 70,000 square-foot Kid Tropolis educational indoor city for children, a 140,000 square-foot Montreal Aquarium, hotel facilities, a conference center, and additional entertainment and shopping.

I hate to break it to you, but all you have to look forward to is a new sign, not a new store. Cabelas bought SIR. They are already stocking some Cabelas branded products.

Looks like you're right, press release is dated 1 April (I don't think is a April fools thing)
Humm, any of the two would be a significant improvement for the Quebec province fishing/shooting/hunting community. Good enough for me :D

SIGNATURE ANCHOR AT LAC MIRABEL
Montreal, Canada—April 1, 2008--Bass Pro Shops, ranked the #1 Outdoor

located along Highway 15 outside Montreal.
“With the project now well under way, many leading retailers, like Bass Pro
Shops, are considering Lac Mirabel as one of North America's most unique retail
shopping environments,” commented Sheldon Gordon, Chairman of Gordon

skills workshops for adults, kids, and families, as well as conservation education.
“Canada has long been known for its great sporting tradition and outdoor heritage
and this opportunity at LacMirabel allows us to further extend our destination retail
stores as well as our full line-up of Tracker boats into this tremendous outdoor
market,” said Bass Pro Shops President Jim Hagale. “This store will be designed
and themed as a tribute to the Canadian outdoors and a celebration of the sporting
men and women of the region.”
The Lac Mirabel store will offer outdoor enthusiasts 3 acres of shopping
excitement with the area’s largest selection of equipment and clothing for hunting,
fishing, hiking, biking, backpacking, wildlife viewing, camping, outdoor cooking
and more. A gift and nature center will also serve up a wide variety of outdoorrelated
items from lamps and dishes to bird feeders and furniture.
An expansive boat showroom will feature Tracker, Nitro, SunTracker, Grizzly, and
Tahoe boats built by Tracker Marine Group--the world’s largest manufacturer of
fishing boats. A boat service center will also be available.
“Bass Pro Shops is a trend-setting, major destination retailer whom we are very
pleased to be associated with at Lac Mirabel,” said Mark Bratt of Morgan Stanley
Real Estate. “With its Vaughn, Ontario location serving as one of Bass Pro Shops’
top performing stores, we look forward to the impact its anchor presence will have
on both retailers and visitors alike as we continue to move ahead to develop Lac
Mirabel as one of Canada’s most distinctive attractions for shopping and
entertainment.”

I could not get that link to work ??

I guess they had both Cabelas's and Bass Pro as potential clients, because if you do a google search, you can find articles from way back in 2005 that mentions there had been rumors of Bass Pro coming to Mirabel.
