Cabelas O/U 3.5 Pallas Heros Camo Over/Under Shotgun - Experiences?

Thanks eurovw, kinda a different price class though.
I did some more research and found out that there is tristar that used to be available in the states, however, couldn't find anything over here...

For what it is worth, I would avoid an $800 o/u - ask a silver reserve owner.... No personal experience with Pallas.

The CZ Turkish made over/unders are awesome guns if you can find one. They recently did a make over on them and man they look a lot better than before. If their sporting clays shotgun ever makes it over here I'll be picking one of those up.

I will never be the first one to buy a "who ever heard of them?" shotgun. There are way too many stories of low-end Turkish shotgun problems for me. Generally, low-end guns are not durable for the long haul, and when they fail there are no parts or service.

My Brownings and Berettas on the other hand will be around for the next generation of shooters.

Spend more, buy better. Buy once, cry once.

Some of the turkish guns are ok but lots are horrible. It really depends on the company and what they want for quality control. Weatherby makes their shotguns in turkey and they are decent for the price. Same with Winchester.
Buy what you can afford. I recommend trying to save up some cash for a used Browning if you can. Who cares if it can handle 3.5" 12 gauge. If you can't kill ducks and geese with a 3" the 3.5" isn't going to help you. Just practice more.

You can't compare an 800 dollar O/U with one that costs to $2-3K, so don't even try.

Having said that, not everyone needs a shotgun that costs $2-3K. It depends on how you will use it and how much you will use it.

If a budget Turkish made shotgun lasts say 1000 rounds and you only use it to pop 10 partridge a year (but just want an O/U because), then the gun will outlive you.

My longest serving, never failed, no problem, no issues shotgun is an H&R single shot 20 gauge that I bought 35 years ago for $80 brand new (which still was stretching my budget when my young kids needed shoes, coats etc). It was used every fall for hunting Grouse - I almost never clean it, it bounces around the back of the truck, gets dropped, banged/bashed and still goes boom when you pull the trigger and the exposed hammer falls.

If I listened to the (wisdom) of spend what I couldn't afford (at the time) I wouldn't have hunted all those years while I was trying to scratch together enough for a "better" gun. Last year I finally replaced it with a Fausti O/U 20 because "I wanted an O/U and I could now afford one". But I really didn't need a "better" gun because it's still only going to pop a few grouse in the fall...

I'm not saying it's "just as good as", but "for me" it's functional and served all of "my" needs.

I actually handled one today on the sporting clay's field. I'll start off but saying this shotgun is fairly light. I found that it came to shoulder in the right sport fairly well. The rubber butt plate was a bit sticky on my shooting vest though.

The model I handled was equipped with 28" barrels and is chambered for up to 3-1/2" shells but with the light weight of the gun, I wouldn't want to shoot 3-1/2" loads.

It's far too light for volume shooting but I would consider it as a decent enough gun to take hunting or to the range for a few rounds. I think it would serve that purpose for a good number of years.

I asked the owner to post a review. It was his first time out with it and he shot 40/50 today.

For the money that I paid I'm pretty happy with it. It has a good balance to it and points well. It doesn't have extractors but that's to be expected. Comes with 3 chokes and a nice hard case. It does have quite a bit of recoil but again to be expected with a light gun. All in all for the money your paying I think it's a very good gun. I am planning on using this as my back up duck gun and something to take the range the odd time. I would say the quality is much better then the budget O/U Savage and Mossberg put out.

Hope my 2 cents help.
