Good afternoon fellows,

I have just received my new Para 16-40. With it came a stock cable lock, as most autos these days are coming with. I have not used these in the past as I have wondered if storing the gun with the slide locked back for long periods of time could dammage, or weaken the recoil spring.

Any input on this would be appreciated.

Main question being: Will using a cable lock for prolonged periods of time casue dammage to the recoil spring as a result of the slide being locked back in storage?

Thankyou!!

Jeff

I would never store a pistol with the slide locked back.

However, a cable through the ejection port would only hold the slide back a little (the thickness of the cable).
What I mean is: close the slide gently against the cable.
That will not hurt anything, and is the intended way to use those yucky "keep the gun from being handy" devices.

I really don't like cable locks...I use trigger locks. All my trigger locks are keyed the same. Although I am starting to switch them all out to combination locks which are the way to go IMHO.
