Looking at the cadex R7 action, and I'm sure that they have used them in hunting and bench rifles before the new Seven Stars action came out, so I imagine there are a few out there being used.

Wondering if anyone has tried brass with small rifle primers in these actions?

Yea I know, they don't suggest it: **The CDX-R7 short and long actions are designed to run standard large rifle primers. Aftermarket brass using small rifle primers design isn’t recommended**, but recommendations don't always get followed.

Anyone have any input?

Looking at my LP brass, there really should not be a case not to try them. I understand if the pin strikes are off a bit, but don't really see reason for that.

I don't know why they don't recommend it, just going off their web info. Might just have to send them an email and ask for clarification.

Received and email this am from Cadex with the following answer. So yea, I can see their reason for this recommendation, as they still have to cover their liability.

Thanks Klondiker as well for that info.

Looks like I will be in the hunt for small rifle primer brass.

You can run Small but we recommend large ( this is for 2 reasons )

1 Mil ammunition is all large and hard primers

2 factory ammunition with small primers are fine, if you reload with them stay in SAMMI spec and keep an eye on your primer pockets

If you do the above all will be just fine

I really like their actions. The CDX-R7 was the choice for my most recent build in 6.5x47 L. A really nice short throw and smooth.

I have the Kraken in .338LM, .308 and 6.5x47 L (which they don't appear to offer anymore because I assume the brass is only available in small rifle primer). I asked them the same question when I got the rifle seeing as how it seemed contradictory to offer a caliber with only SRP brass and then say you shouldn't use SRP with this action/bolt.

In three different actions of theirs I've shot roughly 1,500 rounds of reloaded small primer brass, with zero concern. I considered getting the firing pin hole bushed but seeing how there's no issue I decided against it.

I've observed more primer cratering in my 223 factory Remington 700 actions.

Yea, now just to settle on either the SR magnum, or just the SR match.

I have been using the LR match from federal so far in the 6.5 CM, with great results. Its just a recreational bench rifle for me, to get trigger time and shoot out to 1400m, (max at the range) because I just love shooting.
