I dont have many shops near me to feel the actions much myself but what are peoples opinions on what option to choose for my next build. Ive heard the R7 has a fairly heavy bolt lift due to the 4 lug 50 degree lift but haven't heard much of the cdx-ss action much.

I used an R7. Really enjoy the short lift compared to the defiance in the hunting rifle.

Also take note, if you are going short action, they specifically state on their web page to not use small rifle primer brass in the R7. I recently contacted them and they do say it is okay, as long as it is not military brass. I'm in the works to getting fully set up with the small rifle primers for my 6.5CM.

While I haven't used a different action of theirs, it really is not that noticeable to me on the R7 lift. Compare it to my ruger 77/44 or an old British 303, and its just fine for me.

I think RDSC has both in stock, or they normally do if you wanted to see both. I ordered mine through them.

I bought a prefit barrel and put it together at home myself with really no special tools beside go, no go gauges. Been working great now since last May.

I have a CDX-SS short action. Used a R7 short action for a weekend training a year ago.
The literature from Cadex specifies that SRPs can be used in the CDX-SS. Smooth action, nothing bad to say about it. Enjoyable to use. Throw is fine.
My only negative, if even that, is to remove the firing pin, you must remove a plastic cover held on by a roll pin. So you need a small hammer and punch to take it off. Same for removing the ejector and extractor, but those two pins are a different size, so you need 3 punches.
I'll add that the bolt release lever is small and on the top of the action versus, a more standard, lever on the side of the action. So on the CDX-SS you must slip a finger between the scope and action to push that small lever.
Have a look at them on their website catalog. They have a nice 'flip book' style online catalog.

I bought mine from IBI, on a Christmas sale, even before I had the action. Had the barrel sitting and waiting at home for 2 months before I got the action.

Reason I go IBI is they use a barrel nut, like on the Savage. I can spin on and off easily at home without special tools or a barrel vice, so win, win. I bought the go gauges to set up the barrel, and then gave it a bit more, so as to make the chamber a bit tighter. Was still good for the 200 factory S&B ammo I first put through it. Don't need to work the shoulders much on the brass this way, again this is what has worked for me.

The plan was to eventually get a smaller lighter barrel for hunting purposes, as my son grew to come hunting.

I have a 7 stars in 6br. I’m really happy with it. The bolt comes with two firing pin springs. I put the lighter spring in right away for a lighter bolt throw, but I can’t really comment on how much lighter it is. It also has a semi coned bolt face which makes the barrel somewhat funnelled into the chamber.

It’s not the most accurate gun I’ve ever owned, but it’s definitely sub 0.5 moa.

I used an R7 action with a standard 24" in a strike nuke evo stock. It was chambered in 6.5 creedmoor and was honestly the most accurate gun ive ever used. I had to try to be inaccurate.

I have felt a number of custom actions and the Cadex Seven Stars (their naming is terrible) is one of the best 60 degree actions I’ve ever used. I own a Terminus Zeus (also 60) and the cadex bolt lift feels a little smoother and lighter. (Could be due to firing pin spring weight) It is also significantly nicer than a Sako 85 or 90 if you’ve run one of those.

The R7 on the other hand is one of the worst custom actions I’ve run for bolt lift and close. It feels like a light switch where it snaps open and close rather than progressively lifts. When you’re trying to stay on target for quick follow up shots it’s absolutely bad enough that it will upset the rifle and make staying on target more challenging. Now that the Seven Stars exists I see no reason to go with the R7 unless you want a long action. The Aero Solus (which is considered budget) feels better. Even The Fix by Q which has a 45 degree throw feels better. Comparing it to a ruger 77 or an old 303 is crazy considering it’s a modern custom action. A big part of what you’re paying for is the feel.

The Seven Stars feels amazing, would highly recommend it from what limited time I’ve spent on it.
