Back in the 40's and 50's during the depression and afterwards when times were still hard, my grandfather used to attend Cake/Turey shoots where the winner would get a turkey or a cake or sometimes both.

I've been baking allot of cheesecakes as of late and so I decided to host a cake shoot out at the local gravelpit and let anyone in town attend (I'll be making posters).

Rules are simple, bring your own .22 and ammo to compete. Catagories will be scoped and non-scoped just to keep things fair.

Now I need some ideas for fun shooting. I don't really want to have just simple round scoring targets although maybe that for round one.

So give me some ideas to make this a really fun event!

One idea I have is get wooden golf tees and place sugar cubes on top of them for a "short distance shoot" and I'd also like a "long distance shoot as well" probably with a simple round scored target.
 
A series of 12ga hulls set up for a speed shot is fun .bolt class ,semi class.an other good one is bottle cap glued to a coffee stick a unmarked distances.
 
You should have an element of luck involved, or you may get some biathlete with their anschultz show up, pick off five sugar cubes in 10 seconds, and skate ski away with the cake. :)

P12's balloon idea is good.
 
Another good one is using paper clips and ritz crackers hang them from a wire, they can be a real challenge if there is a wee bit of wind and since they are biogradable there is no clean up.
 
All I can say is 1) too bad you're too far away for me to attend as much as I LOVE cheesecake and 2) old GOLF BALLS, best reactive target going, drop them at unknown ranges out to 100yds or so.

It's the best use for golf balls. Think of all the ranges you could set up on the wasted space known as "golf courses".
 
.22 shoot

Some idea's are:
1. ballons about the size of your fist at 50 yrds.
2. BBQ brickettes on a string.
3. Best 21 hand , line up a deck of cards on a 2x4 so you can't see the value,
two shots each, you can hit with another shot or stay.
4. Poker is the same but 5 shots no draw.
5. The hardest is emptied eggs, glue a string to the top, hang from a cross
bar and shoot from 25-50 yrds as you have to hit it dead on or the shock wave from the bullet moves the egg out of the way.
 
Balloons are always nice and easy not to mention if there is a breeze then they move.

I was thinking of creating something that would rock the target left and right (sort of like a metronome) to make it a little luck besides good shooting.

Also there are targets that look like a bunch of pool balls and sort of have a bingo type of thing where someone draws a number, you have to shoot that number and you keep on going until you miss the number.

Then have some long distance type shooting (100 yards) against golf balls or such for the scoped rifles.
