Im heading out tomorrow deer hunting to I decided to pick up a pair of Caldwell E-Max low profile electronic ear muffs today. I have tinnitus and my ears are very sensitive so no hearing protection is not an option, and I find that normal foam plugs make me oblivious to anything around me in thw woods. I left this to the last minute so had to buy something locally avilable. Anyone have experience with the Caldwell E max? Ive never used electronic hearing protection before and I am concerned about the possibility of malfunction and the gun shots being amplified, or having them lag and not provide any protection or not provide enough low level amplification.

Any thoughts on this? I know theres been alot of hearing protection discussion lately but I need some opinions on this specific set.

Thanks

I don't own a pair (mine are MSA Sordin's) but from the reviews I have read you should be happy- especially at that price. Bare minimum, protecting your ears while hearing something is better than nothing so you should be happy. Beware that they will take a bit of adjusting when hunting. You hear things that are 50m away like they are beside you. It freaked me out for a bit until I got used to the idea of looking away for the critter that was making a sound beside me. :)

I have some Caldwells, and they do work OK to amplify sounds and cut out gunshots, but the microphones also gather a lot of wind noise, and they produce a lot of static when the volume is high enough to improve hearing ability. They are very basic muffs and not my favourites.
Remington muffs are cheaply made and poor sound quality.
I use some Browning muffs that are a lot better for sound quality, but the attachment between muffs and headband broke very easily. They are the best I have found so far.
I am looking for a higher quality pair than the Brownings but have not found the right ones yet.
