I have to say while this thread is alive that the Caldwell Rock is the most under-rated front pedestal rest available. You can get one for under $100 and it is as solid as...well a rock.
A dab of locktight to keep the pedestal head tight to the threaded pole. Level it out with the built in level and then tighten everything that needs to be tightened. It will not move and is perfect for shooting off a bench.
That being said it does take more time to setup than more expensive rests and the adjustments are not as precise and the feet would be no good for shooting prone, but I imagine it would not be hard to buy longer bolts with the same threading and add a wider base to the bottom of them.
