calgary gun show?

I went down yesterday morning for a couple of hours too. I like to look, but I can't remember the last time I bought something at "special gun show pricing". I did meet up with a couple of old friends though, so it was worth the $20.

What did I miss at the show? I was planning on driving down yesterday. Couldn't make it. Got a call from a friend who went yesterday said most of the good deals went out the door in the first 2 or so hours Friday morning. From what he explained it was the usual gunshow circuit guys (with the usual one timers) is he sparing my feelings or would it been worth the 3 hr drive and expenses.

Wasn't bad, picked up a bayo for my Mosin (try finding out with a rifle it goes with). However, I was looking for an Enfield No.2 revolver and the cheapest one was $250 with rust flecks around the front sight! Outrageous!

I bought couple items : flip over bases with rings for mauser98 for 5 bucks and camo masking tape for 10 bucks. But i was surprised by sks one fellow was selling for over 500.

All prices were high but I went today and found as it got closer to the end people were wanting to deal. Bought 8 cases of 9mm for $9.00 per box of 50. Plus a range case, some cleaning supplies and just about got a Browning Belgium .22 repeater for $300 below the asking price (grade 2) but walked away. I think it is a barter for the best price show as I bought nothing for the asking price.

I didn't go. And from all info it was the same as every other year, expensive used crap for new prices. Wen't fencing and gopher shooting instead and missed nothing had a great time instead...same ol', same ol'...:)

I went to the show with the wife and picked up 1 set of rcbs fl dies $25
100 boolits .224 $20, 1 old part for enfied $5. Wife bought blue book of gun values $20.Missed puchase by 5 seconds on a used anshutz with weaver scope, nicly engraved rings and reciever(custom). Lots to see and learn.

When to the gun show it was ok same as always didn't find the rifle I when for. Got a really cool CGN sticker from the guy at CSSA booth guess he was beside the booth that CGN had setup at TO Gun show. So I was worth it for that.

I went to the show on Friday. I've been to some small local shows, but it was my first time at a large one. Picked up a few things that interested me. One was a 8x50R M95 Steyr commercial rifle in great shape. Straight pull, cheek piece, express sights, a cool little rifle. It came with dies and some brass formed from 7.62x54R Russian ammo. I reload but this is the first one where I will have to work on the brass. Anyone have any ammo or brass in that caliber? Anyone shoot one? A William Powells & Son with bad barrels that is a possible sleeving candidate, and some little stuff like a 16 gauge turnover tool that wasn't expensive, but hard to find. Lots of nice guns to look at even if they were over priced. Well worth the money to me, but like I said, I was a virgin.

I went on Friday, and thought it was a good show. There was something for everyone, ranging from paramilitary weapons to English doubles. I did a trade that saw me take home a Bernadelli Roma 4 20 ga shotgun. Sure, the price was high on the Bernadelli, but then the price was high on my trade gun as well! That's the beauty of trading.

I can't get over the chronic whining on prices. They are the same they've been for the past decade! Make an offer! Get creative on a trade! Walk on by! It's a gun show for God's sake! Nobody gives anything away, and nobody pays the sticker price. It's the marketplace at its finest.

I think it's important to support gun shows, especially the Calgary show, which I believe is the largest in Canada. It communicates to the world that there are a lot of us and we're growing. There is strength in numbers.

It was the biggest of the five shows I have gone too and by far the most expensive price tags I've seen. Things like 99C guns that are rather well used looking and a $1200 tag attached. Couldn't help it, I laughed out loud and kept walking.

Did see a rather nice Speed Lee with four flip up express sights but at $895 I didn't even touch.
My Remington 12A and model 6 Boys rifle were both there but they had been drug behind a truck to get to the show.

I went home with only a vintage box of 32Rem ammo.

For a positive I did get to say a quick hi to Ron Smith, always nice to see him..

I thought it was a good show, I picked up a couple of boxes of factory 250 gr 375 Win ammo for $20/box which hasn't been available for many years, there were a few over priced guns but all gun shows are that way, the one I laughed at was the 1950's era 30-30 with about half it's finish left for $975.00, I have seen them here on CGN for about half that.

the best buy of the show was the win 375 big bore that needed reblueing...$300....I should have bought it....hope someone here picked it up

There was a 1899 C in I think 303 Savage with B style engraving. It had been hunted. He had no price on it because he had no idea what it was worth. It was nice to see anyway and he was a nice fella to chat to about savages for a few minutes.
And by the way Noel, ol buddy, ol pal, Is there a good reason you never stopped to say hello?

I went on friday, and it was my first time at that gun show. I did alot of looking and asked alot of questions but never came home with anything. I did find some prices were not too bad but others were insane. Lots of nice stuff to drool over though. :)
