Sisters Lynda Hare, of Calgary, and Dorothy Ludwig of Langley, B.C., claimed bronze on Tuesday in the 10-metre air pistol pairs competition at the XIX Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India, giving Canada its third shooting medal of the Games.
The Canadians actually shared top spot with India's Heena Sidhu and Annu Raj Singh and Australia's Dina Aspandiyarova and Pamela McKenzie, but lost out in the tiebreak system.
"For a moment you think that if I could have just got one more 10, we'd have won the gold but we are both ecstatic with the result," said Hare.
"We were confident going into the competition and, in the end, our consistent shooting won us a bronze which is absolutely fantastic."
"To win a medal with Lynda makes it extra special," said Ludwig.
In the pool, meanwhile, Alexandre Despatie and his fellow Canadian divers added to their impressive medal haul with two gold and a bronze.
Despatie, of Laval, Que., won his third gold medal in as many days and the ninth of his superlative Games career as he and Regina's Reuben Ross came from behind to claim the men's three-metre synchronized springboard title.
Canada, which remained in fourth place overall with 77 medals (27 gold, 16 silver and 34 bronze), also received a silver in rhythmic gymnastics, two bronze in pole vaulting and another bronze in shooting Tuesday.
Despatie and Ross, who led for most of the way, dropped to second after the fifth round. However, near-perfect marks for synchronization on their inward dive enabled them to claim the gold with 430.35 points.
"We told each other it's never over until it's over," Despatie said.
"We knew we could do that last dive very well. On the fourth dive we were a bit off on the synchro and the individual quality wasn't there on the fifth."
Meanwhi le, Mariam Chamilova of Maple, Ont., Demetra Mantcheva of Richmond, B.C., and Alexandra Martincek of Toronto clearly won silver in the rhythmic gymnastics women's team competition.
