It was banned for cosmetic reasons. Pure and simple.
In truth, the .22lr version was underbuilt. The frame was fragile and the lock work was on the cheap side.
The best thing about the gun was the magazine. They worked very well. If I had more money than brains, I'd design a new gun around an updated magazine built on the same principles.

Thanks, I've found the Am180 and AM15. Also found a steel plate 275 round drum.
Wish Canada wasn't so lame!!!
However I just visited Australia, IIRC they prohibated all 22s that are semi auto!
So I guess it could be worse.
