Time to ask:
I have a bubbaed 1905 (**?) Ross I'm in the process of restoring.
You can see the extent of the "artwork" Bubba did! I'll have to locate the splice right in front of the magazine lever and there's no possibility of hiding the line so I'll have to be VERY careful.
I need to know how the front upper handguard is held near the rear sight base and the exact length of that upper handguard, too. Is there a retaining fixture and if yes what does it look like?
My sight is the one with a curved elevation board and a knurled fine adjustment ring around the barrel.
Someone told me the correct retaining middle band should be a thin small ring roughly resembling those of the old style Mosin-Nagant M-91 but there were so many variants that I'm inclined to use the one I got recently.
Another opinion limits the thin barrel band to 1903 ones. This one is from 1906,so...
PP.
