...maybe I will hunt all fall with just 35's?
One could do a lot worse. It's how I take my hunting fun for the most part.
Anything 35 Calibre rocks!!! I love my 358 Win and 350 mag, but wouldn't hesitate to bust out the old 35 Remington if the occasion called for it!!!
No arguments from me - this past week I had my little 35Rem Marlin "Marauder" (16" barrel) in the tree stand with 200SP_CLs @ 2000MV at the ready. Real nice ergonomics with the limited elbow room. Bear has been Mr. "no show" when I've been there - so far.

Thats Nice!

I walked into a small gunshop in Williams Arizona yesterday and saw a mint(one box of ammo thru it) 1979 vintage 700 BDL in 8 Mag....for $650US...he said he would ship it to any FFL holder for $25.....I got the owner's card....;)

I think you might like it!:D Mur

Isn't it sick!! You can go to the states and find these gems everywhere and they don't even get excited about it. You can find all kinds of Remington classics and old BDLs down there without much effort and they never command big dollars.

that's almost twice what I paid :D what a ripoff! :p

my friend has one of the remington 8 mm mag original bdl custom deluxe.says it has only 1 box of shells thru it . looks like it just rolled off the factory line . i always ask him to sell it to me .he smiles .

Thanks to Todbartell and Omineca Source For Sports, finally joined the 8mm family, with a new M70 Extreme Weather in the short 8. although my rifle arrived the day after I returned to "Fantasy Island", I'll get to play with it when I finish this tour.... looking forward to a fall swamp donkey hunt with it next year :)

Best of the factory WSM litter IMO.

that's the way I see it. It's the only "short mag" that did something new/different, so makes sense to me. I really wanted another .338-06, but didn't want to shell out for another custom rifle. the .325 is balisticly similar, and after falling in love with the new M70's, the choice was simple.

of course all of the above, and the fact I couldn't find a factory stainless 8mm STB ;)

8mm PMM = Poor Man's Magnum. 338 Win Mag necked down to 8mm. Easy way to build an 8 Mag on all those surplus Mausers. - dan

I don't see the point of going with a short magnum

8mm RM is a necked down 375 H&H with more case capacity than a 338 win mag, and thus more powder to push a smaller diameter bullet

with equal bullet grain weights in either, the 8mm has better ballistics than the 338 WM since it makes a smaller hole through the air

the 8mm Rem Mag really was made to compete with the 340 Weatherby and the 338 Lapua, and all three have a bigger case than the 338 Win Mag

Mauser's were not made to hold the chamber pressure that 8mm Rem Mag produce

I do have a 8mm-06 that I'm building loads for, should be interesting to see what its capable of

I think the 8-.338win on a surplus 8x57 would be great! I never would have thought of that. The action length is good for the shorter .338, and any 98 mauser can handle the .338 winchester.

The 8 rem mag really suffers in bullet selection. You just can't compete with the larger .338's that shoot the 250 and 300 grain bullets. Then you have my .338 jarret aka .338-8mm rem. Now you get the .338 bullet selection with capacity of the 8 mag and pretty well the same performance of the .340 wby. IMHO the 8mag would really shine with a high b.c. 250gr bullet and this winter I may just try order some custom bullets to test it out.

Presently I'm developing loads for my 8mm gibbs. I could only find some 180gr tsx for it and I'm not getting the velocities out of that I hoped. I'm gonna try changing powder with the 180's and try get some 200gr tsx or AB's.

The point of the 8 pmm was to build an 8 mag (not THE 8 mag) on a surplus Mauser 98 action with an existing 8mm barrel. The action restricted your case length to 338 Win Mag cases (at least without a lot of work), and the barrel restricted you to the 8mm bore. Capiche? - dan
