a hatsan "smart valve" mystery:

i bought a hatsan semi and it came with the barrel removed, for shipping purposes.
i put it together and test fired it with higher velocity field loads (1350 fps), ...the gun does not cycle at all, not once. the bolt doesn't even move at all, except manually.
i disassemble it and wonder if it could be missing an o-ring on the end of the magazine tube, similar to a Remington 1100.
i never thought to question the lack of o-ring because it was never there upon arrival, and, never having owned a hatsan before i didn't realize it was suposed to have one.
i put an 1100 o-ring on (i read they will do as a substitute), and test fired it again. no change, no joy.
i pop a pipe cleaner through the barrel gas ports, ...they were free and clear.
so now i'm running out of answers.

here's some pics of the gas piston assembly. is anything missing or out of sorts?

thanks for any advice. i'm stumped :(

fixed your picture link, was incomplete.

i had the same issue with mine, accept it was assembled when i bought it. the gun came with an extra o-ring that i installed and haven't had a single issue since.

i just assumed the place i got it from lost it as my understanding is the gun comes with 2 o-rings total. maybe it's just one, and not installed for some reason.

you have it in the same spot that i do, so i think it could be undersized maybe.

check the box it came in for an o-ring.

Mine has one one O-ring in it. In fact the orginals are long gone. I had to go get similiar sized ones from Lordco and Napa. The seals from the autoparts stores are a hair bit smaller but work just fine. The gun runs great with only one o-ring installed, always has. When I strip and put the gun back together I put the valve 'thing' with o-ring into the barrel and slip it over the mag tube. I wonder if your valve isn't seating properly into the gas port ring. Sorry for the less then correct technical terms its late and I can't find the manual.

no probs, "ISaid". all input for this frustrated hatsan owner is very appreciated.

Just got mine new. Action would partly cycle but was jamming up every time whether i shot it or cycled it manually. When I seated the o-ring into the recess in the front of the barrel "shank"(the part that slide over the mag tube, and got the forestock seated properly into the front of the receiver, it functioned flawlessly. Mine came with a spare o ring, and, oddly, a spare mag tube follower.....

Are we talking about the O ring on the right side? Mine only has problems cycling cheaper #7 target type loads. About 30% of the time the shell fails to eject properly. Buck and slugs no problem.

Just got mine new today. Wouldn't cycle at all. Put it together as above and it works great now (I put o-ring in the barrel well oiled, then the valve; and held the valve in place as I slid it over the magazine).

Thanks a lot for the tip!

hey guyz. can ya check this out...

at the 6:40 minute mark he's putting on the o-ring in question, but he puts it on AFTER the barrel goes on, between the barrel bracket and the forend.
i thought it went on before the barrel goes on like a Rem 1100. is he messing the re-assembly up, or am i?

Wow, this guy is out to lunch. O-ring goes inside the gas ring on the barrel.

thanks for the advice guys. got a few #118 o-rings to install. not sure when i can get out to the range and test things out, but at least i'm pretty sure what the problem is...
