well i decided to paint my remington 870 express did a little research on krylon paints and decided to go with that well here is how it went
i degreased the gun then used the lightest colour either olive or khaki doesnt say on paint can and i forgot as a primer/base coat (forgot to take pics of what the gun orignally looked like but it was synthetic stock)
yes i know there are feet in the pic below but cant retake the pic now
k pics of all 3 colours entire gun, added black to the magazine tube after pics were taken
pics of adding the krylon sealant coat
and finally the finished product (forgot to take the painting tape off the recoil pad for the pictures)
this is my first attempt at painting a gun and i think it turned out pretty well.
anyway i did 4 coats of the basecoat then added the brown and black let the paint cure for 10 days then 4 coats of the krylon clearcoat. i wasnt to excited with paint quality at first but after the 10 days definatly felt more durable and now that the clearcoat is on I am happy with the finish.
things i would do different if i paint again is go with all four of the camo paints krylon sells i used black brown and i think olive anyways the fourth colour is khaki. i recommend using all four and i would of spent a little more time doin a better tape job couple spots i would of like a better job done on my part.
one of my fears when starting this was that if i didnt tape over my seriel # it would become unreadable but when i noticed that all the other markings on my gun were still ledgeible i removed the tape.
things i like about the paint job beside the fact it looks freakin sweet
is that its stops surface rust(correct me if im wrong) and that its my own custom work.
things i dont like is that my slide isnt as smooth as it was but my safety and slide release were initially kinda sticky but they smoothed out pretty quickly so im assuming after a little shooting it will smoothen up
and one question about the gun now that i painted it can i still use gun oil on the slide and magazine tube to loosen it up??
