I have an older 1100 that I was going to try to camo,( with the spray over ferns and weed technique.) Do I have to strip the gloss finish from the 1100 or is there a primer that will stick to it? I would like to maintain the finish underneath for protection if possible.

At the very least you will need to scuff the finish. Wetsanding with 400 grit will do it or use a red scotchbright pad. I like to use the scotbright pads for scuffing.
