I've heard that when hunting deer, camouflage clothing isn't necessary, but if hunting turkey then cammo clothing is a must.
What are your thoughts? what works for you?

I use camo for both Deer are colour blind to orange I believe hence why blaze is okay. Turkey have very good eye sight but little smell so keep movement to a minimum and blend in. Deer have the extra challenge of smell so you may want some odour reducer or wash in the detergents that smell like dirt

When hunting deer you MUST wear blaze orange (so says the law)

When hunting turkey you don't need to (so says the law)

-Turkey can see better than you but can't smell very well
-Deer are colour blind but can smell miles away

-Both have excellent hearing

That is all...

What the law says varies from province to province.

I have only made it a point to to wear camo when hunting/calling coyotes.

Orange, only gun hunts...

Deer are not colour blind, they see in a different colour spectrum

if you consider that the standard Canadian Camouflage pattern was blue jeans, lumberjack flannel shirt and the dorky blaze orange hat/vest near upon 100 years - did by chance the wild life start investing in more modern threat identification and thermo imaging?
Nothing has changed so other than a Cabela marketing and fudd coolness factor.....

Yes but I only wear a specific milsurp camo rain gear or jacket and none of the real tree for me, a lot of the time I just wear solid earth tones and a light weight plaid that’s mostly earth tones as well.

Well....from the distance I shoot my deer from....I could wear a clown suit....
I do not feel that camo is at all nec for deer or moose.
Noise, movement, smell - reduce those as much as possible.....which is why I prefer hunting on breezy/windy days...

fortunately I live in a province that has decided to let hunters decide what they want to wear, and not some nanny province that thinks it needs to prescribe what you can wear while hunting.

So I wear what works, mostly older army gear with lots of pockets as the outer layer and nice warm under layers.

so yes camo is what I wear.

It wasn't always this way, when I was a kid we had to wear red or orange and there was no hunting on Sunday, but we could use handguns :) so some things are better some things are not.

In the wild west here in BC , we can wear what we want.

I choose to hunt everything in camo because the rest of my clothes is washed in regular detergent which contains UV brighteners,
which will make whatever clothes you choose to hunt with, much more visible to all game.

In theory, a good camo pattern should break up the human shape, and maybe cause an animal to hesitate for a second before running.

Not that long ago the only camo available was Thermo King in Woodland Camo or Army Surplus.
I started hunting without it and have done just fine so never found a need for it.

I have friends that wear it head to toe and they don't see anymore than I do, like a lot of things its all in the marketing.
