For more than 100 years "The National Matches" have been held at Camp Perry in Port Clinton Ohio. In less than 4 weeks I will be going again! This will be my 8th year attending. Started the first year only shooting the John C Garand match. However, this year I will be again shooting all week long. Monday will be the "Presidents 100", Tuesday is the "National Trophy Individual" and Wednesday is the "Hearst Doubles". All of these events are fired across the course from 200 to 300 and finishing at 600 yards. Two CMP events on Friday in the "Springfield" & Vintage" matches finishing with the grand puba of CMP events on Saturday, the "John C Garand" match. Most any NRA/CMP service rifle will do for the trophy matches, I'll be shooting a RRA NM AR15, but the CMP matches, fired at 200 yards, require that rifles be as issued.

This will be another great week of shooting with people from all around the world with between 5 & 6 thousand competitors total from start to finish. I've met Canadians, Austrailians and shooters from Europe. In the shooting world it's the Daytona 500, World Series and Super Bowl all rolled into one!

The best part for me is that for the last five years I've been part of a group, "M1's for Vets", that by this years close will have taken almost 120 of my countries finest, all veterans of Iraq and Afganistan, to Camp Perry to compete at completely no charge as a small thank you for their service, dedication and personal sacrifices!

As fellow shooters I thought that some of you would appreciate this!

Keep 'em in the 10 ring!

If you like US High power you should come to our National Service Conditions Competition end of August in Ottawa.
Any rifle any optic.
Lots of positional shooting on figure targets from 25-500m.
30 second 10 round rapids, 3 second per exposure snaps and fire with movement.
IMHO it is a better course of fire for soldiers.

You've never shot the Service matches in Bisley!I've always wanted to have a crack at Perry however the Canadian/English service rifle matches make the US ones look like childs play.
I shot a bunch in Fort Lewis and they were really quite boring in comparison.

rifle guy - have a look at www.dcra.ca. Go to the Service Conditions section. The complete rule book is there, with the descriptions of the course of fire. Your RRA would be OK, although all Cdn. shooters will be using scopes, whether CF or civilian.
Any service type pistol would be appropriate, and for the sniper matches you need a good rifle with zeros to 800m. Should you decide to come, start the paperwork for your guns early.
Incidentally, quite a number of US shooters, including US champions, compete in the DCRA Target Rifle matches, really enjoy themselves, and do very well.
I have long wanted to go to Perry. I would love to shoot one of the vintage matches with my 1912 Ross Mk. II** .303 rifle. Also have a M-1, for that match.
Longshot - I bet David Tubbs would clean some of the matches, but others would be a challenge for him.
