Greetings. I have seen discussions regarding these two bullets so I had to see for myself. I am working up a load for my new 9mm major open STI . I wanted to use Berry's since I somehow thought they were better quality. Both bullets tested were 124 grain. Nothing was changed in the loading process other than to change bullets. Both achieve an almost identical Power Factor of 170 with the current load. The group was shot off a sandbag rest from 20 yds. Ignore the one flyer. It was not part of the group. It was to get the new sight on the paper. So I guess its Campro without any question.

I used this forum since I consider it more relevant to competition shooting than reloading.

Wow, that is quite a difference. Is there a difference in bullet profile? Can you post a pic of the two bullets side by side?
Edit: Just curious about any differences in the bullets.

Geeze, you guys are getting technical. LOL. I had to pull two bullets which is why you see the groove. The Campro have a fatter tip and are slightly shorter. I have no idea what difference that makes and is certainly not definitive. The Campro have a slightly concave base. The Berry's is flat. That might be more important. Diameter is identical.

Powder/primer/brass brand/O.A.L. ?? Pretty please....
I have 1000 124gr Campro's I need to load up.

I think there are so many variables that my recipe might not be appropriate for your gun . Remember I am shooting an STI with custom barrel and comp. Your results will not be the same. Having said that and the usual I'm not responsible if your gun blows up I used mixed brass, Federal SP primers, Win Auto Comp, at 1.15 OAL. You can start at 6.5gr of powder and work up a safe load for your gun. This is a 9mm MAJOR load for suitable guns. If you don't have a chrono, don't even attempt to load major.

Thanks for the pics. The difference between bullet profiles seem to be minor but it certainly makes a big difference in your pistol. What is your velocity? Berry states not to push their standard plated bullets faster than 1250 FPS. Or are they the TP (thicker plate) bullets?

No worries. I just like to read recipes. I dont have any of those same components, so it is just for educational purposes.
Plus, I would always deduct 10-15% to start when using internet info ;)

Thats a good point. I don't see any markings on the box to indicate either way. My velocity was 1379fps. Even more reason to go with the Campro's.

That may be the important difference. From Berry's website:

Question:
How fast can I shoot these bullets?

[FONT=cartogothic_stdregular]We guarantee our Standard Pistol Bullets to handle velocities up to 1,250 fps, and up to 1,500 fps for the bullets designated as TP (thick plate).

Berry’s cannot guarantee our bullet over the max velocity. You are running the risk of separating the plating from the lead core and possibly fouling your barrel with copper, you can also negatively affect accuracy.

Maybe I can get one of the local suppliers to give me 20 of the TP to test. However, for the extra 15.00 or so, I not sure they can do better. I will definitely give them a try but I also like supporting Canadian companies unless there is a big enough difference in price or performance. So far Campro is ahead on both counts.

I just had a look at the box of 1000 Berry bullets I have. Maximum velocity is listed on the label. I also like to buy Canadian when I can but I shy away from Campro when a prolific reloader told me Campro sometimes had quality control issues. Maybe those issues have been resolved. Given your accuracy results, I'm going to give Campro a try.

Campro hasn't had the quality issues that people talk about for at least 5 years now; but they were there in the past. The only quality issue I have run into with them is I have pulled bullets at chrono that are more than 2gr below what they should have been.

Another plated bullet to try would be Frontier. I am using them in my 9mm Major guns and my classic gun and couldn't be happier.
I have tested the other bullets mentioned extensively (including measurements of weight, plate thickness, diameter and roundness). Frontiers are accurate as hell and extremely consistent from batch to batch. Tested to over 1500 fps.
Current 9 major load is 6.9 gr CFE under 124 gr Frontier round nose match bullet @ 1.165" oal. 170 power factor.

I don't think anyone out here sells Frontier. What are you paying for them ? Campro are around 97. and Berry's TP are around 115./ Thou.

I shoot Campro out of a M&P9, and had the same thing. Primers also made a different. Campro loved Federal, while Berry's loved Winchester. CCI did the worse in both groups. My Campro grouped much better than Berry's did

Ive been shooting Frontier Match 121 gr bullet for my 9 major for the last 5 years and never had a problem. Zero was my first choice of bullets before Frontier, not saying its better than zero, but better price. CarMovies is the a dealer of Frontier and just recently Double Tap Sports.
