Can a barrel be replaced on a VZ58 ?

Sure. But I believe it's pressed into the receiver, so it won't be as easy as most other (threaded) barrels. Gunsmith - yes (with the right tools). User - hiiighly unlikely..

To shoot out the barrel on one of these suckers, you'd have to shoot a LOT of ammo. :)

Ok thanks for the info. With all the nasty corrosive I have I'm thinking of a restricted chrome lined. Just wondering if my current NR 858 can have a new barrel if needed. How many rounds have you guys put through and is the rifling still strong?

Corrosive is a non-event if you clean your rifle properly.

I put 15k through two 858s and, IIRC, DMcFaul put 60k + rounds through his 858 and it still shot reasonably well.

my biggest fear with the NR 858 is durability of the barrel. if you guys are getting that many rounds without issue maybe i will skip the restricted ones.

I just posted a thread about a possible treatment option from NEA. It may be possible to use the ARC+ surface treatment they put on their ARs. As they also put it on their bolt carriers they could probably do the same on this rifle. They said they are busy with other projects but it is something they may do in the future. I figured if I stirred up enough interest they might speed things up.
