Can a barrel tuner turn a junk rifle into a precision rifle???

To save readers time, the answer must be in the negative. Why? Between the barrel and the ammo used, the result are lousy. A tuner can't remedy lousy. Regardless of rifle, with poor ammo performance a tuner can't do its job.

Besides, even with a good rifle/barrel and ammo the testing process seen in the video is utterly inadequate to find a tuner setting that works.

By the way, the video is probably right about the rifle.

Since Josh pay for all his rifle and own exemple of about every popular rimfire and test them all in the same way i trust is judgement, he gets no advantage in promoting or discrediting a brand.

The answer to the question is a resounding "No. Duh.". The barrel is the heart of a rifle's accuracy potential, a tuner can only help get the best out of the barrel but it cannot cause it to perform better than it's inherent capabilities. There's no sense replacing the trigger, putting on a tuner, bedding the stock or whatever else when you're dealing with a junk barrel. A quality barrel replacement is the single most effective modification that can be done, everything else acts in support of the barrel, to squeeze every last drop of performance out of that barrel on your platform.

Recrowning the barrel is more likely to help

My thought as well. IIRC Dayattherange did that to one of his rifle and noted an improvement in groups with the same ammo used prior to the recrowning.

I wonder if Josh will produce a follow up video with a barrel inspection with his bore scope.

TLDR (or watch in this case)

The video is a review of the Springfield Armory 2020 .22 long rifle, which the host, Josh, considers to be the worst Rimfire of 2023. He attempts to improve its performance by installing a high-quality Remington 700 compatible trigger called the "Chimney Hit" and using Eley match ammunition. Despite these upgrades, the rifle still performs poorly.

Josh then tries adding a barrel tuner to see if it improves accuracy. Although there are moments where the rifle shows promise, it ultimately fails to consistently shoot MOA (Minute of Angle) at 50 yards.

The host criticizes the rifle for its poor quality and argues that it's not worth the money. He also points out that while some may argue the rifle is fine for casual use or for kids, a more accurate system like a Savage would be a better investment for skill development.

Josh concludes that despite using premium components and ammunition, the rifle fails to deliver consistent results, making it a poor choice for those looking for reliability and accuracy.

The video serves as a warning to potential buyers to steer clear of this particular model.

Oh hell no. People squabble endlessly about whether tuners even affect accuracy in high precision rifles.

If squabbling occurs over that it happens only among those who don't know better. ;)

The video sets up a question that already has the answer. No tuner, regardless of ammo used, can make any relatively inexpensive rifle with a mass produced factory barrel shoot well. Tuners don't work miracles. They can't fix a poorly shooting barrel and they can't make inconsistent ammo perform differently.

polishing a turd !! Rod that made me smile :)

This is possibly part of the Lieberal's policy . . .

Political Correctness is a doctrine, recently fostered by a delusional, illogical minority
and promoted by a sick mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it
is entirely possible to pick up a piece of #### by the clean end!

Harry S. Truman

This is how I copied it but had seen a previous version where "turd" replaced the POS

Again with the tuners ... as this video shows, there's no magic fix for a mediocre rifle. A tuner may help squeeze a few hundredths out of your group size, but your money is better spent up front on a quality firearm and/or barrel.

The old phrase "polishing a turd" means to pointlessly work on something to improve it, to fruitlessly try to make better something inherently bad.

Truman's alleged phrase alludes to the impossibility of dealing with something unsavory without getting dirty. (In this case Truman was advising Douglas MacArthur to be careful to tone down his hatred of the Japanese when discussing the Japanese surrender with the press.)

If I recall correctly, there was no love lost between MacArthur & Truman.
