Can a prohib be re-barrelled, then become restricted ?

It seems that prohib revolvers sell for less then similar restricted versions. Can a prohib have a longer barrel installed and then be re-registered as resticted? I assume that it would be a hassle for an individual, but maybe a gunsmith could rework and register a bunch at a time. Your comments please.

Yeah & then those that do it get visions of sugar plumbs in their heads and think these new toys with the stick out barrels are worth some kind of premium or something... :p

Yes it can be done...it does seem a shame to take those nice guns and put longer barrels on them or change the cal. but at least it keeps them shooting?

Yeah I agree. Some of the asking prices are ridiculous. The original poster was talking about revolvers though. A 6" barrel on a frame that had 4" does not necessarily look any worse.

While a prohibited revolver will sell for less compared to a restricted revolver (of the same type) the cost is not that much lower. As far as getting a better buck for the gun (by converting to restricted) you still have to take into account the cost of the new barrel and the gunsmith's fee to put it on. You will most likely not make that money back on the sale of the gun as restricted.

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't looking for a money-making venture, just a way for us restricted-only folks to have access to some nice guns that would otherwise disappear once the "grandfathers" pass on.
