I was reading a catalogue and saw 10/22 magnum magazines and wondered if a normal 10/22 could be converted into .22magnum. Anyone ever do this?

It's been done, but it's not for the faint of heart. I personally do not think it's safe, as the 10/22 magnum had a steel action, whereas the 10/22 is aluminum.

I've done one and it works great.....but only with shooter's ridge 25 round mags. It is a butt load of work and I barely shoot it now. I have a factory ruger 10/22 magnum, I had and extra barrel for it, I already had extra magazines, and I had an old 10/22 action that was laying around, so I decided to try the conversion. It was hours of playing with all aspects of the action to get it to fire an then feed reliably. While I'm very happy with the results, if I didn't already have all the parts lying here I would have been better off to go out and buy a Magnum Research .22 mag built 10/22. For about the same $ as what the conversion would cost, you could just buy one and skip the headache.

It seems to be more complicated of a process then I thought it would be. I wish I could find a 10/22 mag but I have had no luck. Thought I might be able to do the conversion but it doesnt seem likely. thanks for the good info guys.
