The Can Am deal is too good to let pass. Two pistols and two cases of ammo arrived this morning. I ran a patch through each barrel to take the oil out and went to the range. I took two different handloads to shoot plus a box of the new Norinco 45 FMJ.
The finish of the 1911s is not as good as the latest versions, but each is flawless. The machine marks inside the pistol are gross. The plastic grips did not appear to be cracked. The triggers are both perfectly crisp. One is about right for a military pistol, the other is too heavy, I think. Both pistols seemed to be quite tight. Very little play on the slide.
On the range, both pistols ran perfectly using the supplied magazines. I fired about 40 rounds from each. I was pleased to see they fed the flat point and SWC bullets. At 25 yards, each shot about 4 inches to the left. This suggests to me that the sights are probably about dead on for most others, since other people’s guns always shoot to the left for me.
I shot my target 45, too, with the same ammo. It did not group as well as I expected, but on reflection, the best load for it is quite mild and the test ammo was warm loads.
When I look at the groups, I see that the two GI pistols shot well and only a bit bigger groups than my target pistol, which has a better trigger and sights. All three pistols shot the Norinco ammo into a sideways shaped group.
During the shooting one of the new GI pistols broke a piece off both grip panels. These are real cheezy grips. I will install Hogue palm swell grips, and one of them will get the trigger pull lightened, and they are good to go.
If you don’t take advantage of this offer you will regret it.
