Hi Guys,
I got a care package from CanadaAmmo this week with my 1911, DA SOCOM, and Full Length DA M305. Today I did initial field strips, de-oil and regrease of everything. The 1911 was a bear to reassemble (I just need practice), and the full length rifle seems to all be happy and in spec and passes the post-reassembly with flying colours. Barrel appears to be in index, everything passes the tilt tests and the rear sight has positive and consistent clicks. Appears to have full engagement on both lugs. Cycles dummy rounds with minimal sticking, mags are easily inserted and removed -- much easier than my Norc M305S.
The SOCOM is a little rougher.
The Good: the flash hider is easily removed by hand and the gas system and op-rod/bolt assembly pass the tilt tests after cleaning and greasing. The sights don't have any obvious cant and the clicks on the back sight are consistent and positive. Post re-assembly the hammer passes the follow-through test. Bolt lugs appear to have full engagement on both sides.
The Bad: The safety dis-engages when the trigger is pulled. From safe, the rifle will discharge with two trigger presses. This strikes me as an unsafe condition and is repeatable with the trigger group in the stock or separated from the rest of the rifle. Anybody know how to fix this? Also the mags appear to be seating a bit too deep into the rifle. Working the action with the magazine in place requires a fair amount of force and removing the magazine corrects this. Removing the magazine is a two-handed exercise with one hand to depress the mag release and the other to rip the mag free. Normally you can press the release with your thumb and use the heel of the same hand to rotate the bottom of the mag forward and out. Both magazines supplied with the rifle do this. Fresh marks on the feed lips show the bolt is dragging over the mags. It this correctable?
The Ugly: The receiver end of the top hand guard arrived with a crack and chip. Functionally not an issue but cosmetically not happy making.
I'm looking forward to range testing all three, but will hold off with the SOCOM until I get the safety sorted.
Cheers,
-DF
