Can an old guy like me get into biathlon?

If you like skiing and shooting I don't see why not. But unless you train hard and shoot well I'd suggest that you're going to be at some disadvantage against the younger and more fit. But if you don't mind not being on the podium and just want to do it for giggles and exercise then SURE. No reason at all why not.

Obviously as an exercise. And yes; cross country is more fun and you actually feel more accomplish then blazing down a hill. Just not sure where you can a fun league around.

Nothing stopping you from Skiing around on crown land with a .22 slung over your back. I'd imagine the regs and training for a place like say, the Nordic Centre are costly and time consuming.

Competitvely? Missed the boat. :) Another one of those sports that if you don't get in young, HIGHLY highly unlikely you can compete. The shooting part is easy... it's the skiing that's insane.

shooting is the easy part? thy it when you are trying to catch your breath and your heart rate is racing. not so easy

next time you are at the range, do 50 sit ups in 2 minutes, then take aim. Not as easy as you think.

More like 50 sittups in 1 minute followed by 50 push up in 1 min. Your arms and legs are very sore if you are not used to it. But this is my idea of fun.

So speaking from experience as an active biathlon coach and former competitor..... Yes you can get into biathlon. You would be classified as a "master" or recreational competitor depending on what Zone you live in or what club you belong to.

Get ready to spend lots of money on gear and dedicate tons of time into physical training....so depending on what your motivators are then...... but it is a sport with tons of physical and mental challenges and rewards!

So..simple answer is yes.

PM me if you need contacts or have any questions.

30 isn't old. Have at it.

I placed 4th in a ISDE qualifier for the Idaho 100 last year in the 30yr old class, which produced a time beating many A riders and finished 101/1750 (finishers) at the Washington 100 a couple months earlier.

Give'r ####.
