I have this browning handgun that I received from an Uncle who has since passed on and I would like to know more about it. as he didn't have any paperwork manuals etc. It has target stocks, sights, bull barrel, comes with weights etc. would like to know more. Browning web site doesn't give anything for the serial number and only thing I have is a medallion in the case that says Automatics by Browning. St Louis Mo. Gun is Belgium made

yes came with weight holder, 3 weights, strange screwdriver and a 22lr case holder holds 60 cartridges. real nice unit. but like I said no information at all. And it appears that manuals on the Browning site have been discontinued.

These guns had a very interesting feature according the catalogue:

"An inimitable feature, especially appreciated by the target specialist, is a DRY-FIRE mechanism integral with the thumb safety. With the safety latch in its rearward position, it operates solely as a manual safety. In its forward position, however, the safety secures the hammer but allows a partial hammer fall with each pull of the trigger. A slight pressure on the safety latch after each trigger release, quickly recocks the hammer. Thus a shooter may dry fire with ease as long as desired. Trigger let-off is identical to actually firing; the firing pin remains inert; mechanical parts are unburdened by extensive practice; recocking is effortless and accomplished without disturbing aim. The pistol is on full safe throughout a practice session."

A very nice well made target pistol. My '74 shooters bible shows a price of 156, about the same as a base model highpower back then. For comparison, a smith 41 is listed as 145.
Congrats, look after it well!

I would think so also but when researching on the Browning web site the serial numbers are not anything alike

The letters in the serial number (prefix I think) will identify that the frame is a Medalist, Challenger or Nomad.

Note that all the above models used the same frame. (Only the Medalist and Challenger used gold triggers though I think.) It is possible to take any one of these frames and dress them in different barrels and grip configurations.

The original mag is worth its weight in gold!!!! Only Triple K makes aftermarket mags and they do not hold the slide open after last shot.....don't know why they do not fix this design issue with their mags.

Medalist my dad used to have one for bullseye.

After he died my brother ended up with it, then sold it....If I new that was his gun I would pay through the nose to get it back...

There is a presentation cased browning target 22 (I'm not sure if it is a medallist) at the Winnipeg cabelas gun library.

serial numbers are backwards compared to the Browning web site

Thats a very nice Medalist. They usually sell in this area for $600 -800 with mag and weights. With the case and all the accessories they oftens go 900-1000$. They are very good shooting pistols and are in demand as starter and intermediate target guns. To install the weights you have to remove the little forend wood piece. They don't look as nice but usually are better balanced and preferred for shooting.
