I'm looking to buy two 2" long picatinny rails for my 10/22. Since rimfire has little to no recoil people have told me I don't need metal rails and plastic is just fine. But I'm worried that if I cheap out now I'll be paying for it later?

Metal or plastic can anyone give me advice on this? I just need two 2" rails for a flashlight and laser. Since it’s not for a fore grip should I worry about the weight?

magpul make nice polymer rails that are durable. providing you don't put on your hercules ring and torque them them down so tight you break them, you should be fine.

EGW makes a good rail. I have one on my Savage. Was only about $60 and fits quite nicely. If you go metal you won't regret it (unless a little weight is a big factor for you), bit of you go plastic and break it you'll kick yourself.

that would work.

How do you plan on attaching them? through the side of the oem stock? You may need different screws to attach them.

Nothing wrong with them for the purposes that he needs them for. He's not going to war or on a Zombie killing spree .. he just wants to attach a flashlight .. lol :D

Yes I thought about plastic rails breaking. But as jt stated above, it’s going on my tacticool plinker. Metal would be nice I'm split between cost and practicality. One 2 inch rail mounted on either side is all I need.

Oh as for mounting. This is going on my Tapco stock so yes I have to drill in holes to mount them

As per your OP .. 2" metal rails won't add any noticeable weight to you rifle over plastic. You may want to consider slightly longer ones such as 4" in length. You may need to move the accessories around a bit to suit your grip.
