Don't know a lot about historical pieces. I inherited this from an uncle who got it from who knows where? Everything on it looks original to me including the interesting stock. Is this a military piece?

On the action is the following inscription:
CESKOSLOVENSKA ZBROJOVKA, AS, BRNO.
It has a "Redfield" peep sight.
I'm guessing the caliber to be in the .308 range.

I'm wondering as to collectability and value.

Thanks!

Guessing the calibre? You had better find out for sure. Do you have any ammuniation for it?

I would suggest a chamber cast. If you don't know how, take it someone who doses. All I can tell is that it is a mannlicher stocked mauser. If origional, it could be an 8mm x57, or 7.9 x 57 mauser. There were also 7mm and 6.5 mm mausers. If sporterised, it could be anything!

Wait - I think I found it! (Inspiration from Russell Crowe's performance in "A beautiful Mind")
