Can anyone identify this bottom metal? (what brand) It came installed on a Rem700xcr I bought from an estate. A magnet will stick to it, appears to be high quality stainless steel

Both 416 and 17-4 will allow a magnet to stick to it.

My best guess is Dakota or early PTG. I have had both and both are about identical to your photos.

might be.. the trigger guard doesn't look to be quite the same shape... not sure

Go find a nickel....coin or any coin for that matter...and a magnet!!

300 series stainless(more nickel) is NON Magnetic & only work hardened capable.

400 series stainless(more chrome) is Magnetic & heat treatable.

Austenitic stainless is paramagnetic, weakly attracted to magnets. Ferritic and Martensitic stainless however are strongly attracted to magnets...
