Looks like a 28 gauge (13.8mm bore) with 2 1/2" chambers (28-65mm), nitro proofed (PV = Poudre Volante), with choke (not for ball), Liege Belgium proofs.
thanks for the info.so 28 guage and able to handle modern shells apart from slugs,correct?
ya as for condition maybe it was stored in a barn or unheated cabin.i'lll ask him what's the story behind it.
had a couple of buddies a long time ago who stored their guns in a soft case under a bed or a closet in a sheet and they didn't do too well--rusty as heck.

No!
Modern 28 ga. is 2 3/4, so would need a source of 2.5" cartridges. Might be able to fit a 2 3/4 loaded hull but on firing the crimp may not open fully and this would increase chamber pressure above what the gun was proofed for. No-one can determine what the present condition of the barrel is by pictures. I would not fire it even with the appropriate cartridges without an expert gunsmith's assessment wrt wall thickness, pitting, present chamber length, and other criteria of soundness.

If the bore looks decent and nothing broken then maybe $150 if you can source 2.5" 28 gauge shells. Ammo not going to be cheap.
