BC Definition of hunting is as follows...

hunt & hunting - includes shooting at, attracting, searching for, chasing, pursuing, following after or on the trail of, stalking, or lying in wait for wildlife or attempting to do any of those things, whether or not the wildlife is then or subsequently wounded, killed or captured:
(a) with intention to capture the wildlife, or
(b) while in possession of a firearm or other weapon.

I have my hunting licence, so its not actually about me, but rather who's allowed to accompany me. I have many friends who want to tag along.

My original idea was let them pack a shotgun, but that seems out, so I guess my question is this: Can they accompany me unarmed?

Does "capture" specifically refer to a capturing a live animal? Or is it still capturing if I shoot it first?

The main reasons I want someone with me is twofold - if something happens and Im alone, thats not good. Also, if I do get a deer or something, having help to carry it will be very useful.

They can accompany but not help with the hunt but they can help after the animal is on the ground. .. BUT .... if they buy the one time (don't waste it, it's a one time deal) Initiation Hunters License, then they can carry a firearm and hunt with you .. but on your tags. No PAL, no CORE, just a one time "accompany and hunt with" a hunter that has had a license for the last three years and off ya go, have fun!!

My buddy bought an initiation licence and came with me last week.

Didn't want to hunt with me because he said "two guys would be too loud."

He stayed behind at the cut and watch a hillside for a morning while I hunted the timber.

He saw 4 does and I saw nothing, so that afternoon I hiked the timber above the cut he'd seen the deer on and bingo! Two-point!

This conversation is going to get stupid because someone is going to tell you the guy that stayed behind was hunting as he saw deer that day and told you about it...flame on! Grab a fire extinguisher!

The guy had an initiation license so "would" have been legal to hunt WITH MD but how it went was not correct and if he shot an animal there could have been consequences .... Initiation hunters MUST stay under the direct supervision and control of the hunter with the tags, this was not the case. So yes a flame, but not for the reason you figured.
