Found a new spot today to crossbow hunt deer. Lots of tracks in a narrow part of a bean field between a cedar bush and cornfield. The landowner really doesn't want a tree stand or blind set up.
Just curious if anyone has had success just sitting on the ground in a field using a crossbow.

Beans will still be in for 3 weeks so I will have some cover.

I can see a landowner not wanting a permanent tree stand or ground blind on their land but why would they object to a temporary movable tree stand or ground blind? Are you sure they understood what you were asking to do?

Two choices- hang the stand only when you are in it or use a ground blind. I've shot deer from both. Using a depression for your blind works really well too since you can 'stand up' for shooting but otherwise have a very low profile.

Yes, they get it. They are worried if others see it they will just start hunting there as well. Took me about 3 years of working the farmer to get the spot. He had some bad experiences with trespassers hunting on his land so he is a little gun shy at this point.

No reason you can't get a deer from the ground. Just make sure you pay attention to the wind and build whatever you can as a blind even if is just a few branches to cut your outline. Also try to have something behind you to also help cut your outline. I have shot deer in a similar situation with a compound bow.

Buy a good pop up blind and hopefully he is okay with you leaving it there. Brush it up with anything around and that is there. Where you put it is up to you but i'd say 20-30 yards from the path and so you got a good left to right view as they walk by and that's it. Put out some apples or feed too along the path to make it even better, good luck!

So the trail through the bean field must be visible from a road I guess. Will they let you make some sort of blind right at the edge (in) the corn field or the cedar bush? It would not be seen from the road and you would be hid from the deer.

Yes, you can be successful. Took one 2 years ago sitting on a folding tripod stool. Brush was thin but there was maybe 2 or 3 yards thick of thorns, deadfall I was sitting behind. Was not wearing blaze as it was not rifle or shotgun at the time, crossbow only. Cant say if the lack of orange made a difference or not. Doe walked past at 12 yards on an established trail and I took her. Completely by surprise.
