Can I buy with only my pal #?

You have to be in possession of your PAL to be in possession of the gun. While you can purchase the gun online with only the number and expiry date usually, if you take possession (like when it comes in the mail), I believe that is a no no.

you dont have the expiration date so it s a no no ... plus the fact if you re in possession and controlled ... no card to show ... a long time to get your non restr back to you ...

Not 100% true.

I asked about this when I called to get my PAL number.

From the shorten PAL sticky thread
Just got off the phone and have my number (she said a lot of people have been calling for it the last few days and couldn't figure out why). I asked a few questions and got some good info I thought I would share. It is legal for any gun shop to sell you a firearm with only your PAL number, if they have any issues just have the shop/person call up the CFO and they can verify it or see it on their online system. Also, for being stopped while transporting a non-restricted without a license, a peace officer can go by the PAL number. Police however can confiscate the firearm if you fail to produce your PAL (at their discression) for up to 15 days until you show your license.
