Can I cold blue this surface...?

Hello CGNers,

I bought a refurbished sks and was unhappy with the black spraypaint finish on all/most of the metal parts.
I stripped and scrubbed most of it off and found this underneath.
Is this a sort of finish or is it bare metal?
Will it rust or be ok?

You could cold blue it, just make sure too degrease the metal first. Personally I would leave it.

All I see is naked chicks washing your car.. at some fruit stand with wood lake in the background!..

That being said I would go for it... blueing should be good.... clean the metal well... heat the metal up as the blueing will be deeper and stronger if you do..... In fact I would wait until a hot summer day there... clean it all up the morning of... then set the metal parts outside to bake in the Hot July sun... then blue the metal when it's hot... then coat with oil.. and let it set for 48 hrs.

What is remaining is old blued finish. You can cold blue but if you wipe it down with a slightly oiled rag from time to time, the metal wont rust. Your call

Yep.
Cold blue the paste. But first wipe it all down with acidtone and when it's dry to remove any un-seen oil wipe it with mythol hydrate. Now wipe on cold blue gel paste then clean per normal.
