So I'm going to Sask to hunt whitetailed deer with my dad this year.:dancingbanana:

I'm arriving in Saskatoon on Nov 21. Canadian resident deer season runs from Nov 26-Dec 1. I checked out the hunting regs on line and what I'm seeing is under the trapping section it appears that only residents are allowed to take coyotes.

Am I not seeing something? I thought coyotes weren't classified as a game animal?
It's been 20 years since I lived in Sask, so I'm sure the regs have changed somewhat:D

Thanks

My understanding as well, Sask residents only.

Might be the only province that has that kind of rule for coyotes ?

What area do you plan on hunting? I'm and AB resident and will be out hunting WT's about an hour south of Sask. going to call my cousin a few weeks before I go to ensure there are actually deer out this year.
I was out in the area in Sask a few weeks ago and only saw about a handful of Pronghorns...no deer.

My dad lives in Dundurn, just south of Saskatoon. he has a few spots around the pasture he hunts so I'm assuming we're going there.

I was there in 2005 and we saw some moose in the pasture, bizarre.

He's got an elk tag just around home as well. I grew up in Saskatoon and left in 87 or so. Never saw moose or elk in that part of the country back then. Go figure.

I do miss the coyote hunting in Sask, I've seen more in a weekend down there than I have in a whole winter up here.

Check in the Regulations which are available on-line through SERM website.

I may be wrong, but as I recall only residents can get fur licences which are required in the northern area of province. in Southern part coyotes are vermin and no licences are required, but check the regs.

Pickles,
There is no non-resident coyote hunting in Saskatchewan at all. Residents don't even need a licence in the South. There's a bit a story behind this state of affairs, that dates back to a short-lived "coyote licence" for Americans. Few licences were sold, and a few Americans realized that a coyote licence allowed them to carry a rifle in southern Saskatchewan without a guide. Predictably, some of their coyotes had antlers and the licence was scrapped.
Saskatchewan still lets Canadians buy whitetail and black-bear and bird licences and hunt without guides, which is a lot more than Alberta, B.C., NWT and the Yukon do for us. It doesn't get any better going east either, though I haven't checked the regs in every province.
I took your old .416 to South Africa and Zim, and shot a blue wildebeast and cape buff it with 400 TSXs and solids. Worked OK.:D

Worst regulation ever.

I would rather spend a couple thousand for a 7 day Sask yote hunt than what I will be spending of a caribou hunt.

So where were you when there was a non-resident coyoye licence? That license was cancelled due to:
1)Abuse by Americans.
2)Total lack of interest. It wasn't worth printing the tags.
