Can I Import Scope Part Without A Permit?

Can I import scope parts from the USA for warranty replacement for a non-mildot/non-night vision/non-military scope without a Import permit - and can the US supplier export to Canada without an Export permit?

No.

The U.S. Dept of Commerce controls scopes & their parts/optics/mounts and requires U.S. export permits on all items under their control. They have no exemptions.

Try looking for a warranty center here in Canada.

Where can I find the regulations concerning these import/export laws? All I need is a couple of O-rings.

Even the screws for a scope base require export permits.Doesn't matter how small the parts is.If it is a scope/optics part it is restricted buy the Commerce Dept for export.

All the info regarding this subject has been posted many, many times here on CGN.

Trying lookin in the FAQ or Legalese Forums for info.

Best to contact the U.S. Commerce Dept. themselves and get you answer straight from them.

If you only need o-rings, try an industrial supply wholesale/retailer.

Yup, that's what eyes a doing, just waiting for the exact dimensions from the manufacturer. Also still waiting for a reply from the US Commerce Dept on warranted replacement parts for scopes from the US - I do believe someone on this forum had stated previously that scope warranty returns and warranted scope parts were not in the US Commerce Dept hit list - the package just has to be marked as such. But I'm not holding my breath.

Warranties don't matter.

Example:

Leupold Mark 4 scopes can not be fixed in Canada because Korth Agencies does not have the facilities to work on this line of scopes.

Mark 4 scopes must be sent to Leupold USA for warranty work. Sending the scope down isn't a problem, but you require Export permits to have the scope shipped back to you in Canada (even though you OWN the scope. )

Leupold is NOT keen on Canadians sending them scopes, and want you to use Korth Agencies.

I know a few members here who have spoken to Leupold reps at the Shot Show and Sniper matches about these regulations and they really don't want the hassle of doing extra paperwork on a piecemeal basis.

I am interested on what the Commerce Dept. has to say on this.Maybe they have changed things..................
