Hey there
I saw a used ppk at a very good price. Unfortunatly i do not have my
prohibited status. Is it possible to turn it into a restricted pistol with a longer barrel? If so where do i get this from? Anyone do this befor and have pics?
Thank you
IanC

Ian:

This is a project I would chat about with Gunnar over at Armco Machine & Plating.
He is an approved CGN vendor, and a skilled pistol smith with lots of paper.

Let us know how it turns out.

I am curious about this same project. Please do post up the results of your conversation with Gunnar, or any other resource that you discover.

You can make it into a restricted by installing a longer barrel in the correct caliber. The .32 Auto magazine will also work with .380's but if you are converting a .32 the boltface requires machining. Tricky job.

It can be done to a PPK. I had a PP rebarelled and reclassified and it does not look too silly. Keep in mind that the PPK is shorter overall so the barrel will protude even more than this. I have no qualms about rebarreling a short barreled pistol - there's all sorts of them collecting dust in every gun shop I've been to. I figure if the guys with the prohib status don't want them then they're fair game!

Looks like it's sticking out it's tongue... :p

Someone did a nice job of it, BTW.... ;)

If I wasn't 12(6) and wanted a PPK or PP, I'd do it, too.

Here's my unaltered PP for comparision...

Here is mine, the barrel is a Walther 12 groove 106mm unit that I picked up several years ago for 24 bucks from Numrich (before the silly export laws).

Doesnt look too bad. Thanks for all the pictures and the info too.
I always wanted one of them and dont care if the barrel is an inch longer.
Just wanted to make sure it could be done. Im pretty sure the one i saw was a 380 auto. One thing im not really sure of if someone can help me here,
How is the barrel held in the frame? pinned or screwed in the block?
Ive sent emails to a few places will update when i get more information.
Thanks again

The barrel is pressed into the frame from the back to the front. To take it out one can use a gear puller, bear in mind when swapping the new barrel in to make sure that the extractor cut on the barrel matches the one in the hood, if not you won't be able to extract...

I had mine done by the guys at Epps. As DAR701 said, the barrels are pressed into the frame. If memory serves, they charged me about $125 to make and fit the new barrel and blue it as well.

DAR - I like those grips! What brand are they and where did you find them?

They are, if memory serves me correctly, Hogue Kingwood grips. I believe I bought them directly from Hogue. I quite like them too, I was getting cut up with the factory black plastic grips (slide bite every shot), these wood grips are thicker and completely prevent that.
